I have a 12 lb. package from NJ to CO. ( its a big box--not huge--just big)
that is $88 to ship via UPS
and $55 via USPS.
Is that right??
am i going to have to lose money on this??
item sold for $114 with free shipping.
its worth alot more....
I had no idea that it would cost so much to ship..

thanks for all of this help.
right now I am trying very hard not to be angry at my boyfriend.
his answer is to just not ship it.
refund the buyer because I messed up on the shipping.
people who don't sell on ebay just don't get it.
so now I am driving to the post office ( on turnover day) and will handle it myself.
I am pulling his other items that I am selling for him off my site.
I have 100% positive feedback but won't after this.
omg.
Ah that is very frustrating.
Please know you are not the only one who has sold something for a friend or loved one only to discover that they have caused you an incredible hardship, of course without realizing it, because they simply do not understand the rules.
I once bought a piece of electronic equipment that was covered in sticky soda pop and not working. I wondered how someone with thousands of positive feedback could possibly do such a thing. He informed me it was his girlfriends sons game system, and he had packaged it all up and given it to him to list on ebay, along with the digital pictures of the item to list it.
Could he have opened the box to make sure it was all good or verified it was working etc before listing it? Sure. But I think we all trust our loved ones blindly and do not even consider that something could be horribly wrong without our realizing it. When I contacted him he apologized profusely of ofcourse. The other items in the box were fine, but he offered a generous 50% discount which I was more than happy to accept and still keep the working items.
I would recommend shipping the item out as soon as possible, using the method you selected in the listing, and do whatever you can to get the size down. I realize you may lose money on the deal, or rather I guess your boyfriend will? But unless he falt out refuses to allow you to send it now, I'd just chock up to a valuable lesson learned and maybe not list things for him in the future or of course get more information next time.
Good luck!

ok I finally got the dimensions !!
it is 18 x 18 x 24. and the cheapest I coulg get it there was $52.39
USPS ground.
now hopefully the buyer won't ding me for the delay or the face that I did not ship it
priority mail which would have been $85.
we shall see.
yes, size of box was the answer here.
thanks to everyone for their help.
as an aside the #%**&# post office clerk at first did not even give us the option of ground...
I had to ask him....oh, come on, there has to be a cheaper way.
he seemed annoyed that I would even ask.

Glad you were able to get it shipped. I pass up on many items now due to their size since I know shipping would be terrible.

Training for Postal employees is to "up sell", and not offer a lower method unless asked.

If paid online with an eBay label, that package would have gone Priority for $51.89.
