seller resources on a COMPETING VENUE??

What is the logic in this 2022 seller stuff ALL ON FACEBOOK??  My kids have facebook accounts, so to take advantage of any of these new "seller resources" I will need a facebook account? To reach a customer service rep I will have to do it on facebook?  I have a business to run.. GOOD GRIEF.. I mean has it not occurred to anyone that facebook IS A COMPETING VENUE??.. Why would you divert your CUSTOMER BASE TO A COMPETITORS WEBSITE??

How many MBA's from California Colleges did it take to come up with that, I wonder??

MADNESS MADNESS I say..  What's next one those tik-tok dances to keep your account in good standing?? nobody gonna want see that from me and my staff I promise, bunch grumpy old Veterans the image is really frightening..

Who is running this company??  The chances of me and I daresay there are others becoming a facebook member are nil.. THE LEADERSHIP HAS LOST THEIR WAY.. The future of eBay is facebook huh??  Why are these people determined to ruin this once great venue??

Just so you know...there is a portal on Facebook:

https://www.facebook.com/eBayForBusiness

Here users, be they be buyers or sellers, can access via the SEND MESSAGE feature a higher level of eBay customer service that is usually better than that  supplied by the regular CS reps (typically outsourced, that cannot solve problems beyond what the bots are able to supply).

It is a means to the end for those that are victims of "fake tracking scams" and "fake return tracking scams" etc. that the regular CS reps can only throw the victims "under the bus" so to speak.

You are correct in your observations that Facebook in itself is also a selling platform.  This platform has its own drama issues, and if you sign up for the pay to play version (offer shipping) then there are more problems.

I just say no to selling face..

Not much interest in the mindset of it.

Although we do sell alot of big not shipping items as they take a truck or box van with lift to move, still have to weed and block and look out for tons of spam & scams.

I will not use facebook or twitter either. I think it's fine as an option, a bit amateurish, but fine. A lot of people like it. I don't.

It is amazing to me company as large as eBay claims to be, cannot afford customer service to service all their members.

Their site, their rules, their consequences.

I will never use either one, esp. FB.  But you don't need to, they're just there as options.

The direct contact CS on most marketplaces I sell on is not stellar.  I personally prefer NOT to have to call someone - online chat is perfectly sufficient.

FB was for businesses as well as other things WAY BEFORE the Market Place began; so ebay had an account there.

Lucky for us (for now) they ARE there, they can see what is happening on the screen and actually FIX things.

The other option is the brick wall that you get when call (or get call back) with no 'real' answers and no 'real' fixes.

This is true - most businesses (including mine at one point) do have a presence on Facebook, though the android who runs it wants to call it Metaverse, and the people who work there "meta-mates" 😒

@dhbookds

That is true.  You do need a Facebook account in order to access that portal.  One can get a Facebook account and making friends, and posting recipes yada yada is not necessary, but the account is needed to get help.  If you are being scammed, you can either get an account and get the necessary help, or stick to the regular customer service that have already thrown you under the bus.,

Mean to an end, nothing more.  Forfeit your $1000 and refuse to sign up for help, or forfeit you $1000 because you hate Facebook.  It is what it is.  It is unfortunate to be sure that regular CS is so horrible.  They have to "protect eBay" at all costs, and are designed to do just that i.e "sorry tracking shows delivered so you lose" and such even if you live in Maine, and d/confirmation shows a parcel from Amazon delivered to Texas.

seller resources on a COMPETING VENUE??

I use Facebook to contact all kinds of companies all the time. I contact my local utility via Facebook to ask how long they'll be working on a project that blocks my street; I contact the Oriental Market (a grocery store a couple of blocks away) to ask whether they have gochujang in stock; I contact my online meal subscription company to find out why my box delivery will be delayed; I contact my local nursery to ask what I should use to spray my ornamental crab for fire blight. I could go on and on.

While Facebook Marketplace may be a viable platform, it's not the main function of the site. To consider the Facebook Marketplace to be an eBay competitor--albeit not much of a threat at this point--is technically correct, the main purpose of Facebook is still a social media platform rather than a sales platform. It's not like you're being directed to eBay's customer service via Amazon or Etsy . . .

You don't want to use Facebook to contact eBay customer service? Fine, don't. No one is making you. You can contact them via Twitter, as well, and Twitter is definitely not an eBay competitor, so no problem there, right?

There are also perfectly satisfactory customer service contacts right here through the website.

How do I contact Customer Support?

Again, no one is making you use Facebook, so your post is essentially a strawman fallacy.

The people responding to users on Facebook are customer service reps--and eBay pays them, so I'm not sure what you mean by "cannot afford customer service." Those people behind the page aren't working free.

Their Facebook page is available to any member, wherever Facebook is available. Without doing a side-by-side comparison of where eBay platforms and Facebook platforms are available, I imagine that means their customer service reps responding on their Facebook page are available to "all their members."

Since you do not want to sign into facebook you can always post your problem here and someone will probably give you the results you need. It is possible you may not like the results, but there is a good chance the results will still be the same weather here or on facebook.

I prefer the phone, should that not be an option? And if not. should eBay not just say u have to tweet or have a facebook account to participate on eBay? That includes buyers too.

I can live with that, how about if eBay just proceeded like they did with MP, by a certain date u need to have a facebook account or your account will be suspended. At least we know what options we have and can choose.
