rip-off

I'm a casual user on ebay and ebay seems to be doing every thing they can to rip me off. I am told i will be receiving this much and when i  see the envoice it shows a completely different no. Now ebay is holding my money because I'm a casual user on ebay. Anyone else having this problem.

Re: rip-off

Exactly what percentage of your money did eBay take for fees?

Also, it's Paypal holding your money, as eBay doesn't have it's own payment system to hold funds.

Re: rip-off

I think you are confusing PayPal with eBay ...

  • If eBay says you are getting $100 after they take out their fees ... PayPal will give you $96.80 because they charge a 2.9% processing fee plus 30 cents per transaction.
  • PayPal holds money for new sellers who don't have a track record in case there's a problem with the sale.

Re: rip-off

  • EBay charges 30 cents for each listing however currently there is a 50 Free Listings promotion in place.
  • EBay charges for many options on the Selling Form, most of them useless.  These include Bold Title, Scheduled Start, Auction Reserves.
  • EBay charges 10% Final Value Fee on the selling price of your item
  • EBay charges 10%FVF on the first domestic shipping charge for your item.
  • Paypal charges 30 cents plus 2.9% on your customer's payment. (If your customer's PP account is non-US that would be 4.4%)

And as mentioned, your customer's payment will be Held for up to 21 days (less if you are in the USA) against your customer service.

You can use the Held funds to purchase shipping labels, often at a discount from PO counter prices.

did you think it was free to list here?  Yes there is a fee.

Also as long as you use tracking, you can ask that paypal release the funds on day 4 after the item was received by the buyer.

Newbies need to read the rules and become familiar with ebay before listing so there will be no surprises afterwards.

Re: rip-off

New sellers always have limits; in fact, all sellers have limits.

While there may not be a listing fee, there are FVFs (final value fees) and PP (Paypal) fees.  It's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the fee structure and policies before listing.  Assumptions lead to disappointment when reality kicks in.

This is only true for US sellers.

We foreigners must wait the full 21 days for our payments to be released.

On the other hand, we are not required to do any tracking to get the discounts for Global Top Rated Seller, although obviously that has no effect on a new or occasional seller.

Yes, my comment was directed to the OP who is a US seller.

I usually tell "foreigners" to ask on their own message board home site as rules can differ.
