rearranging options within an items variations

Here is my problem.  I am listing an item that has numerical size options.  For example size 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 could be a list of options.  When I add a size to the listing later it won't let me put it in numerical order, it adds the size to the end of my list.  So in the previous example if I start selling size 6 of the item in the listing drop down it will list the items 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 6 instead of the more logical 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16.  Why can I not rearrange the order that my variations appear in my options drop down when I edit an item?  Am I missing something incredibly simple?

The reason this is such a big deal to me is that I feel it is easy for customers to miss the size they are looking for when they are looking at the drop down is not in some sort of numerical order.

Here is one of my listings as an example. https://www.ebay.com/itm/272567073464 Click on the size drop down and you will see it appears way out of numerical order:

Re: rearranging options within an items variations

Yes I totally agree. I wrote this as a concern YEARS ago when MV listings first came out. My issue is with sizes too. First carrying small, med, large, XL. Then later I carry X-small which should be at the very top but instead it's after XL which will confuse buyers and they make many mistakes thinking the XS is 2XL.

Ive mentioned this to eBay cs countless times and they all say the same thing. That it's a good idea, dunno why the function doesn't already exist and they will put it on "the memo" to the development team. Keep in mind this was many years ago and still they do nothing. You'd think it'd be a pretty easy fix. I'm sure it's also because not enough people are complaining to eBay about it so I encourage you and others to call eBay and tell them this. eBay does nothing if not enough people complain.

Re: rearranging options within an items variations

Thanks for the confirmation that this is not just a me problem. It seems so basic and simple to fix I can hardly understand why someone at Ebay doesn't take the time. When I go to edit my options there is even an instruction box that says "drag to rearrange" but you can't drag anything. I even tried it in multiple browsers and on other computers to see if that made a difference. Nope.

About the only option I see at this point is to delete the listing and relist with all of my options. I will definitely give Ebay a call, and thanks again for your response.

Are you talking about the "drag to rearrange" shown on the right side of my screenshot?

If so, then that's not to rearrange your "Options" (Ebay terminology: Attribute = Size, Options = S, M, L, etc) like we are both wanting. It's there to rearrange your Attributes if you have more than one. I.E. I currently have "Type" on top and "Color" below it. I can move Color to top (but not rearrange the actual colors inside the "color" menu). I've never tried this function so I don't know how well it works. But you'd think they should extend this function to within the Options since I figure it's the exact same coding more or less.

My guess to why ebay originally didn't allow this is because they don't want any Option to change at all or disappear from a listing AFTER it has sold one unit. You are correct that the best thing is to probably end and relist, but you'd totally lose sales history, watchers, and possibly exposure. If your listing has made no sales for a certain Option, you are able to delete it. Otherwise it stays there forever. This becomes a problem because I have many colors that I've sold out of and have become discontinued. Those will stay there on the listing as "out of stock" taking up space. Buyers will have to scroll down passed all those out of stock in order to find new colors I've added. It also takes up the listing memory (making the listing load much slower). I wish I can at least push them all to the bottom but as you've mentioned in the first post, we can't do that.

MV listings are really messy and have always been since day 1. Sometimes the order of your variations will also change when you are looking at them in your edit page versus the order you'll see if you look at the listing as a buyer. I.E. When buyers see your listing they'll see the variations in order as "Small, Med, Large, XL, 2XL". But in your revision page you'll see the variations order as "XL, Small, Med, 2XL, Large". There's a bug they have that just jumbles it up and rearranges it randomly when you try to revise. It's very annoying but at least it's in back end where the buyer doesn't see it.

SOLVED!

Revise Listing -> Variations: Edit -> "Attributes and options you've selected": Edit -> Top Right side, they recently made it where you can drag the sizes around and reorder them. See photo

Yes, they've finally decided to fix this issue within the 15 months since the OP was written.
