Did you mean:

"Watching"

Your opinions on fixed price sales: Do you think most "watchers" are really just sellers of the same item and only want to see what the going rate is...or are these legitimate buyers who want to jump in at the end?  Just curious about what other sellers think.

Re: "Watching"

By a few years I'm talking 10-15. I remember putting in the viewcount html. I remember sellers using the baconbuttie app to figure out the watchcount until Ebay shut it down.

10-15 is not "a few" when the site has only been in existence for 20.

Re: "Watching"

OK but I already clarified that many posts ago. Being nitpicky about the words I used (that I already clarified) is not really advancing the conversation in any meaningful way.

Thanks for the 'other' reasons. I did forget a number of possibilities. My favorite on your list: "I can't believe you are asking that and I want to see if it sells". So true.

Mostly other sellers wanting to see what the going rate is... or potential sellers... or people with the same item that are just watching for the fun of it.

There's no point on jumping in at the end of a Fixed Price listing.

However a few legit buyers might be watching... pending an answer on their B.O. made on someone else's item... or as a "backup" to an Auction they've bid on that hasn't ended (in case they don't win it).   And it's difficult to keep track of items you might want to buy one of, since you'll probably have to run 15 searches to find them all... Buyers will put potential purchases on their Watch List, so they can compare them to other available listings found after that.

Any watcher much beyond 7 to 10 days old... if they haven't bought it by then, they'll probably never buy it.

There are fixed price listings on my watch list that have been there for YEARS.  I put them there as research when I sold one.  I don't delete them wondering if they'll ever sell at all for the sky-high ask price.

There's always "I just reported your listing and I'm waiting impatiently for eBay to remove it".   I don't think that happens much anymore though, eBay pretty much never removes anythig that gets reported these days.
