I sold a precious metal item 2 days back. The buyer has not paid. About 24 hours after the sale I received an email from ebay informing me ". . . that we had to cancel the following transactions(s) because the item(s) were purchased without the account owner's permission. . . ." The email goes on to inform me not to ship the item and that, "We have credited any associated fees to your account." Further, they tell me not to contact the buyer and provide me a link to relist.
The problem with this is that none of this has actually happened. It is now 24 hours since ebay's email and the transaction still appears as normal, just waiting for payment, and no fees have been credited to my account. It has certainly not been canceled. If I cancel the order on my own, then I will be defected. The only option I see is to open an a case for payment not received at this point. What is going on here and what do you think should be the proper course of action?

You could go to eBay live chat and have them look into it for you. You can find live chat in this link at the bottom of the page.

We have credited any associated fees to your account.
I think they are speaking about your "final value fees". The FVF is charged to you when they is a buyer/winning bidder of record. Whether they pay or not does not affect this fee at the end of the "listing" . When the buyer pays, at that point they add the fvf for shipping if you charge separately for same.

I’m not really sure what you mean but the FVF has been charged and has not been credited back to my account so I’m not sure what you’re trying to convey to me.

Don't contact the buyer & click on this link?...for a precious metals sale?...buyer hasn't paid, but you're being "credited"?...
Are you SURE that email was from eBAY?....take a sniff & see if you don't maybe smell a scam in the air.

click the arrow beside "no.reply@ebay.com" and see what it says as the email...at the very least , forward it to ebay asking if its legit..regardless, you will get a response from them either way

forward to spoof@ebay.com

Same address as shown.

More than likely it's legit then...may need some hours or a day to see the changes the email spoke of.

I’m just proceeding normally until Ebay follows through at this point.

Thanks for the clarification...wasn't at all what I was picturing from the initial post.
