"Item Conditions" email?

I just received this email from eBay and, well, I don't understand it.

"To ensure a smooth transition on May 16th, we encourage you to remove conditions and grades as variants in your listings starting today, and to update your item descriptions to accurately describe the product condition."

In other words, please remove condition notes and update or create new listings with condition notes?  Is there an international standard of condition grading and they haven't told us?  Anyone?

What are custom multi-SKU variant options?  I don't think this email could be any more confusing than it is.

Re: "Item Conditions" email?

Basically it is like this.

Lets say I have a big stack of #93 Bob Saget trading cards for sale in one listing.

If I have the listing configured with a drop down box to select "Near Mint", "Slightly Played", "Heavily Played" and "Damaged" (likely all with different prices) then that is something you can't do anymore. I would have to make a separate listing for "Near Mint #93 Bob Saget Trading Card" and "Slightly Played #93 Bob Saget Trading Card" and so on. This is because buyers being buyers are not reading as usual.

Very few people list this way, so it isn't going to effect many people. I already make separate listings for condition variations in collectibles and so do most other sellers, as buyers tend to scroll right past that listing in the results that shows a price range instead of a price.

For Firetrucks under Collectibles Toys, the Grade is Hose A, Hose B.

Re: "Item Conditions" email?

Hello everyone! I come bearing the response I received regarding this email:

This email is related to the category expansion of the ebay refurbished program and is not related to condition grading. As part of this program, we are eliminating the ability to have condition or item grade “A, B, C” as a variation on MSKU listings. Sellers will need to create a separate listing for different grades.

More details:

  1. As part of the Seller Refurbished program, we are asking sellers to reclassify their existing inventory to one of the 3 new conditions: excellent, very good & good.
  2. Some of the sellers are using condition as a variation on their MSKU listings. We are asking these sellers to split their MSKU listings and have just 1 listing per condition (so we can map it to the new conditions mentioned above).

Thanks for posting this update velvet@ebay. Can you loop in Jasmen since she posted on the CA board today that she didn't have an update yet? (link)

GLORIOUS!

Thanks for the heads up @wastingtime101. I was the one pursuing this and we get A LOT of email so Jasmen probably missed seeing it. I've gone ahead and replied to that thread on the CA board since she's off for the day. Thanks again and have a great weekend!
