Hey everyone.
Has anyone else had the "best offer" option start showing up on auctions?
I typically use the "best offer" option on my BIN fixed price listings, but I've never heard of it showing up at auction before. I didn't even think it was possible to have an offer feature on an auction, but it's showing up on everything I list today. Obviously, when I list an item at auction, the minimum bid is the lowest I'll accept, so I don't even see why eBay would consider making this an option. I already get plenty of lowball offers & the last thing I need is offers below my minimum bid, and there's not even a BIN price on these listings.
I list several items a week for auction, and I didn't do anything different this time, so I'm wondering why it's showing up, or if there's something in my default settings that was somehow changed?
Is it visible on a page that's not my account?
I called eBay CS, but all they could really tell me was that it SHOULDN'T be an option, and ask me to decline any offers I recieve while the auction is running.
Anybody else running into this??

There's no option for best offer in auction listings, eBay is just automatically including it. That's why I'm wondering if it's something in my advanced default settings, but I still can't figure it out.
Unless it's also been recently added, there shouldn't be anything in your default settings, because BO on auctions should not exist.

More likely just a bug.

I suspect that the idea with this (and yes, I do see the Make Offer button on your new auctions) is that they're trying it out as a kind of fuzzy BuyItNow idea, where your opening price might be $27 (for example), but before bids are received, someone might get you to accept a higher (not lower) offer to just sell it on the spot.
This might be an interesting idea, but of course no one seems to be coordinated enough to actually announce it to us up front, before dumping it on us.

Auction, with "Make Offer"
BUT
Only on PC.
On Android eBay app.....same listing: Auction, no Make Offer.
It's a bug.

If it's a bug, it's a pretty well-formed one, and looks to be fully functional. (I looked at that listing on an S7 using the Pocket Auctions for eBay app from Bonfire Media, and the Make Offer option did not display there, but did show up when I went to the Full HTML view of the description.) The fact that it doesn't have a Mobile format equivalent doesn't mean that they're not playing sillybuggers with the main desktop auction format tonight.
I'm going to guess here that once a bid is received, that Make Offer option will disappear.

I think the OP on the other thread confirmed that a bid makes Make Offer go away.

But maybe it won't, if the idea is to get more bucks. I recall some listings had "sticky" BINS that didn't go away once a bid was placed. Maybe this is expanding on that, if that even still exists.
Ok, I just saw the post that said a bid makes it go away, but still, it could have worked like a "sticky' BIN.
Just a thought.

If nothing else, they should make certain that eBay CS knows about it, but when I called today, I spoke with two reps who were equally clueless.
I was put on hold several times, presumably for "research," and they came back with (again, paraphrasing) that it '...shouldn't be possible. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. Just go ahead and decline offers below your starting bid.'
I was able to find a way to change the settings to automatically decline bids lower than my minimum bid. There is an "offer settings," but I can only find it on the mobile site, and it doesn't allow me to remove the best offer, just to set a minimum price to auto-accept & maximum price to auto-decline.
I suppose if they make the settings more accessible, and the offer option goes away after a bid, it doesn't bother me too much. It might even encourage stubborn watchers to put in an opening bid, I guess.
I run most of my listings at auction, then BIN OBO if they don't sell at auction, and I do get a little annoyed when I get offers from watchers that are below my original auction minimum bid immediately after I list the item BIN. This might be irrational, as I sometimes just want to unload the item, and have accepted a few of these low-ball offers in the past, but I certainly don't want to start seeing them before my auctions even finish.

@Anonymous
Hi, Trinton! Can you shed some light on this for us, please? Is this a new feature Ebay is experimenting with, or rolling out, or is this a glitch?
Thanks for your help!

It seems this is yet another "feature" eBay places on listings, not the seller.

I also have not seen this feature in or on any auctions I have listed and just went thru and checked All my auctions and non have this.. interesting to know if this is a glitch or something ebay came up with over the weekend?

All the auctions you started yesterday and today have the offer button.

What are you using to list?
It's possible - probable - hopefully - that only the ebay listing pages insert this junk in there.
Maybe the 3P programs like TL, Wonderlister, Six-Bit, etc. don't have the Make Offer inserted?
