'quick view'- auuggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

How many years have we heard add photos. Surveys say people are more likely to buy with photos. AND EBAY IS THROWING A 'QUICK VIEW' BANNER OVER THE ENTIRE PHOTO!  HAVE THEY GONE INSANE? Someone wanted to look good and suggested this? And they tested this and it came out good idea? Has anyone ever heard of a phrase called impulse buy? Where someone is looking but not committed and they have a photo catch their eye and think that looks good, yeah I'll go ahead. You think Amazon is going to hide all their listings behind a banner? It's splashed across like it's some kind of secret what's behind it. So people are going to think what is Ebay hiding? Not even on the bottom of the picture- right through it! How is anyone going to compete with other sites showing their pictures if they're on ebay hidden? Click on something and open another site- you're going to get pop up windows all over of items just like what you were looking at- pictures of items! PICTURES! You're not going to get pop up windows of banners. You get pictures! Someone is trying to sabotage ebay.

Hi @turnsby777, for me the Quick View banner only appears when I hover my mouse over the image of a listing. What internet browser are you using? Have you tried clearing your cache and cookies? Is the browser up-to-date?

I think the point here, and I have to agree with the OP, is that it shouldn't even be there in the first place, mouse hovering or not, it should just be gone, period.  I certainly haven't needed it since 2015 and certainly don't need it now.  Put my vote down in the get rid of it column please (PS: I know YOU didn't design it but you need to carry the negative messages back to those in charge).

Yessss- thank you. Why put in extra things that can go wrong? Click here-click there-you only need one front door.
*Plus - why encourage buying from just picture? People see what they see- encourage reading the listings!

Agreed! Perhaps in eBay's eyes, not having to read listings creates a better "buyer experience". After all, if they get it and don't like it, all they have to do is file SNAD and return it for free. No harm, no foul... for eBay. Sellers on the other hand (who are being driven out of business in droves), well they're disposable and a dime a dozen, right?

Re: 'quick view'- auuggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Hello, I like the OP am getting the "Quick View" banner over the item search thumbnail pictures. I haven't changed anything on my laptop. They just suddenly appeared. I don't know much about ad blockers, browsers, etc. And, if there are other people out there like me, how are they going to view the pictures and buy items??? What's odd is... when I do a search on my iPhone on the classic site the banners appear which makes me think it's an ebay glitch!

Please EBAY can you let us know what the situation is?????

Re: 'quick view'- auuggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

This is eBay replacing the magnifying glass icon. As a buyer, I would mouse over any pic and see that icon, I'd click it and I can see the image blown up without leaving my page, X out of it, and come back to the search to view the next item.

About a week ago, I moused over, and no one had the magnifying glass icon anymore. The "quick view" banner appeared instead. (It didn't linger when not hovering item). I'd click it and the same would happen: blown up image of listing.

Today, no  magnifying glass icon and no "quick view" banner. All listings have to be clicked to inspect. Considering how slow internet has become again, this is an annoyance, slowing down my browsing/searches.

If it makes a difference, I'm using Chrome(book). HTH.

Re: 'quick view'- auuggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I'm on a Mac laptop, OS Mojave 10.14.6, Firefox browser up to date,

and, like Brian T, I see the "Quick View" box only when I hover over an individual gallery photo.

Most interesting of all, the gallery pictures are now at least 50% bigger than they used to be, and the Quick View box uses only 10-15% of the picture.

I suspect that this is how it is supposed to work--larger gallery photo with small Quick View box.  When I click on the box, a Cliff-Notes version of the listing pops up.  Actually, it's rather neat.

I have not noticed any change in the size of the thumbnail pictures in my search results, though I mostly use "list view" rather than "gallery view". In either case, the default picture size can be set in the "customize" menu shown in message 26 -- small, medium or large.

Users experiencing a problem with the quick view banner obscuring the pictures in their search results should consider changing their default picture size as a partial workaround. Or else consider installing an ad blocking extension and adding the custom filter rule mentioned in message 20, at least if using a desktop browser.

I was using the list view to see the photos. I always do.  I repeated a search that I had done last night.

Overnight,  without any conscious action on my part, the photos in my list view got bigger.  Of course, things often change on eBay without any conscious action on my part. 🙂

Re: 'quick view'- auuggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

OK then- I am NOT alone! So it IS ebay- what are they doing- and more importantly- how to get them to stop? Quick view encourages people to NOT read listing and ***if someone looking to buy something gets this banner so they cannot see anything- HOW MANY ARE GOING TO SPEND TIME CALLING EBAY WHEN THEY CAN GO TO ANOTHER SITE? YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MANY PEOPLE GET THIS SO JUST GET RID OF QUICK VIEW! To expect every person going to ebay to care enough to spend the time to debug if this happens is insane.

A change at eBay's end could have altered your defaults, or else using a [control][+] keyboard shortcut to zoom an eBay page in another tab could cause a change in the original page when you navigate back or switch tabs.

Often it seems like things change on eBay without any conscious action on anybody's part.

Re: 'quick view'- auuggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I went to list view when they made pictures bigger years ago. Default should always be small icon, list view, newly listed.
Users experiencing a problem with quick view banner should not be. Ebay should fix /eliminate. Users should not be expected to debug, change browser, clear history, etc...... Recipe for eliminating users- not banners.

Amen to that, turnsby777! Users shouldn't have to try to debug eBay's issues!

I find a proactive approach is often more effective than waiting around for eBay to fix things.

Ultimately it is up to each individual to decide which approach is most suitable.

Re: 'quick view'- auuggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I will agree if this is happening. And even some are paying for a outrages Gallery View. That e bay should be giving free on all listings.  My sales this year is worst ever. Because  bay can not quit making stupid changes. like you see a banner over your photos. If they are doing this now you are right doomed to kill themselves. I have not saw it. But with things going like they have been. e bay is so stupid if they think someone wants a quick view. They want a full view. Instead of quick view. They should do full galley + view for all. Not trying to make $ by cutting or blocking the view. It is them cutting $ they could have made. And dose affect like you say. Others will not buy on a poorly viable site.  And why would anyone want to sell on a site with a banner over their photo.  It is getting harder and harder to make sales on here without all the bad moves e bay has made this year.

Re: 'quick view'- auuggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I have given up over the years trying to be "proactive" and provide solution based feedback to eBay! IMHO, they have lost sight of the basics and have forgotten that they have made the purest of marketplaces difficult for users (both buyers & sellers) to use. Very sad indeed and what surprises me is that a group of the next generation people haven't developed a viable site that embraces the basic tenants that made eBay so successful and fun... oh, well!
