I don't normally deal in sports items but I was at the right garage sale at the right time and could not pass them up. Questions: suggestion of a reputable company to send them to. How much do they charge per item ? how long before items come back to me ? How can I be sure I get the same item back as the one I sent in ?
How much difference does it make in the selling price if it is or is not authenticated? Anything else I should know ?

There are 3 or 4 "highly regarded authenticators" that offer online guides, submissions, cost estimates and instructions....
The 2 I have used are Beckett and JSA,,,,both list their prices and times on their websites I believe....
I personally think the authentication helps getting a higher price....plus, if you get them encased, they look pretty cool.....your mileage may vary......

the problem right now with the better authenticators is they are extremely Back logged. I have about 20 cards waiting at beckett since February and it looks like it's may be at least 2 more months before I see them.

Thank you. I was thinking of waiting until after the first of the year when (if) the postage rates go down.
Is Beckett your best choice? Where are they located?
Do they do basketballs, footballs, helmets ?
Thank you for your reply.

I was thinking about waiting until after Christmas when the postage rates (if) they go down.
How do I contact Beckett?

I don't know if I would chose Beckett. I only used them because a friend has an account with them. I have since found out they have an F rating with the better business bureau. PSA is the best but expensive.

It sounds like you know nothing about cards. I would advice you to really understand which ones should be sent for grading and which ones to throw away. Typically those that you think you could not pass on are worth nothing. The seller already cherry picked and left you with what most people would give away for pennies. Even if you have some sports stars worth grading, if they are not close to mint condition, you will loose big $$ as it is very expensive to have cards graded. As for the autographed ones there are 10x more fakes then real ones so it also could cost you big $$ if they are fakes. Many collectors only want the autographed cards that come from packs.

I don't have cards. I have a NBA basketball with all team signatures, a Championship OSU football, several helmets and other footballs. Someone pointed me to 3 companies today and I went to their website and found out how to submit items along with their prices. I think I will do that in January, I'm too busy now. Thank you for your interest and helpful suggestions.
