private listings

Hello Everyone,  I just have a quick question from here in New Jersey.  From a seller standpoint - is there any advantage or disadvantage of using "Private Listing."  Thank You.  I hope that you buyers are finding some nice deals & that you sellers have been able to make some $$$$.   (J.B.)

No; just protecting your buyer as it will show 'what' they purchased on their feedback so if you are selling things that may be 'sensitive' to a buyer, you do the 'Private Listing' thing.

Used to be, others would send messages to buyers saying things like 'I got this' or 'I got that' for sale when they would see 'similar items' being sold. Now buyers emails are blocked etc.

I'd like to offer my take on this as a buyer.

Many of my purchases are highly faked items and I've seen countless numbers of sellers with private listings who've sold fakes, sometimes mixed with authentic items.

I want to be able to look at titles (at least) and listings/pictures/descriptions (at best) to see what the seller's history looks like. Private listings prevent me from doing that.

     Hopefully you opened NAD cases or the fake items and got your money back.

A buyer's feedback history does not show what they purchased.  However, a little digging into the feedback history of their sellers will show the listing title if you search for the buyer's comment.

 The option for "Private" listings goes way back to the days when buyers had no other privacy: feedback histories showed listing titles and buyers' full IDs. If you go back far enough in eBay history, buyer IDs WERE their email addresses.  As you pointed out, this led to some obnoxious communications.
