Re: no paypal?

Did eBay send you a notice for a date you must sign up for Managed Payments?

Sounds like you went past the due date.

eBay has been steadily moving sellers from PayPal to their new Managed Payments system.

It sounds like you have been moved, and there is no opting out or going back.

I would check my past messages to see if I missed the notification that said you needed to set up managed payments in order to continue selling.

Re: no paypal?

Try again later; just had a pop-up several times overlaying my page while trying to delete an item from my watch list - thanking me for listing an item. Glitches today on ebay....

Re: no paypal?

The short answer is to go through the MP verification process if you want to be paid for your sales moving forward.

Good luck.

Oh, but they do. For the same reason you gave it to PayPal. Nothing nefarious going on.

Re: no paypal?

They’rresponse will be that you don’t have to sell on eBay.  This issue has been discussed almost daily in these forums for months. Do you no longer get announcements? Think you can go back many months in archives but not sure. Anyone can advise in that?. Dealing with a broken elbow here so takes me forever to type one sentence. A legible one anyway.

Re: no paypal?

Let me expand on that a bit...

PayPal was once an eBay owned company.  eBay is no longer satisfied letting someone else take a small fee for providing the much needed secure money transaction.  Now eBay wants that cut....but the problem is that the MP program/eBay is not near as secure as PayPal

Ultimately they are eliminating the middle-man.  I personally really liked the eBay and PayPal combo, but it is what it is.

The Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 requires payment processors like PayPal and eBay to file a 1099K for any taxpayer who meets certain thresholds (which can vary by state).

Since payment processors have no idea what payments might come into an account during the year, they collect the taxpayer ID number beforehand so that they do not find themselves out of compliance with the law after a payment comes in.

So no - they do not "need" your SS#.

You are the one who "needs" them to have it if you want to use eBay.

"They dont need my ss#"

You are correct ... and you don't need to sell on ebay.

"I have not read all notices. why get rid of paypal?"

Paypal makes money off of ebay transactions. Ebay wants that money for themselves. Ebay decided to take over.

If it makes you feel any better, lots of people are not happy with the switch.

That is simply inaccurate.  2020 Anti Money laundering laws and IRS requirements means they must collect SSNs on all online sellers.

Why is Ebay showing "greed" because they want to make profits?  Aren't the rest of us here for the same reason?
