Regarding the new "fair" tracking upload rules - how is wasting sellers time "fair"? I post most of my items signed for to protect against fraudsters, so now i will have to type in a big long number every single time just incase one of them is dodgy? Signed for only shows up when the item is signed for - it is no use for anyone who wants to track it along the way!

i am very very busy as are most sellers

It is the FRAUDSTERS you should be making life awkward for not the sellers

I will only be listing cheap items by standard post from now on

why does ebay ALWAYS make life harder for sellers whilst protecting fraudsters?

I may have misinterpreted the latest message. The requirement I think is to enter a tracking number on time, not to make tracking essential. I agree entirely with the opening message posted. Less than 0.1% of my domestic mail goes astray.

i don't think it's anything to do with items not being sent signed for - its basically saying you will be open to fraudulent claims if you don't upload the tracking number , so even if the buyer has signed for it they can still pretend they didn't get it if they see you haven't uploaded the tracking - then ebay refund them, you try to claim off royal mail who won't pay out . It's to encourage us to use the ebay printouts i think which they will get commission for . I have seen buyers with a long track record of "never turned up" still being allowed to start claims .

and your point about missing post is another thing that annoys me . For the sake of a very tiny minority of missing post we will have to put a big long tracking number into the site and find the right one amongst all our orders, most of which we can't remember who is who till you click on each one

it came in an email today (check your junk mail if you didn't see it) - they are going to force sellers to upload tracking for every item you send signed for , yet no one's postcode shows on the orders screen so you'd have to go through each order then search for the postcode on postal receipt for each buyer then put a long number in - or ebay will let fraudsters pretend they didn't get stuff and give them the money back even when they have signed for it!

I did not get this email and I'm not sure what you mean.

When shipping labels are created thru Ebay or PayPal, tracking gets automatically uploaded, regardless of any add ons such as sign for, insurance, etc.

How are you getting your shipping labels?

I am considering giving up as if I sell an item for £1.50 I charge £1.50 for post and packing then I have to pay another £1.00 for signed for my customers will not hack the extra charge they are always wanting combined postage I sell a lot abroad this will involve adding £8.00 signed for so this
kills of my international sales

yes i know , that is what ebay are trying this on for . But it still means wasting ink , paper and your time cutting paper out and sellotaping it to parcel etc , i will just sell anything expensive on Discogs etc instead, and only list items i can afford to lose

i post stuff at the post office , it's quicker than going into print label, letting it whirr round for 5 minutes, waste ink , paper and time cutting it out and sellotaping it to parcel

of course this means that ebay miss out on their 2nd lot of commission (their 10% of postage on all sales not being enough)

I am confused, I thought tracking has been required for a long time. I am in USA. I use ebays shipping to and have never had to upload a number. It is done automatically. I do double check to make sure its done. A few times there was a a glitch and I had to put it in.

Latest announcement states that the new rule does NOT apply to ALL sales, only to those that would normally be sent with tracking . panic over .

it's not panic over - it's still a gift to fraudsters and hammering sellers with bureaucracy. When you send something signed for if you don't put tracking into ebay (or forget) unscrupulous buyers can claim their money back even when they have signed for the item . Ebays excuse is so that sellers can see where their parcel is - which would be fair enough if it was courier - but signed for tracking only appears when delivered . So basically millions of sellers are going to waste their time putting in numbers for no other reason other than there may be the odd dodgy buyer . It's like a game too - no postcodes appear on sales so you gotta click 'view record' on every transaction then match it to the number on receipt from post office
