need help with a seller fee question

I do not wish to sell outside the USA - & my acct restricts selling outside of United States.

I recently had a purchase form someone with a US shipping address.  Ends up he is out of the country so eBay charged me an international selling fee even though my account says I dont sell internationally and I was not & did not ship internationally.

The first person I spoke to in customer service said she would speak to the finance dept and put me on hold.  A while later a second person answered and said "what's up?" - ( the first had disappeared somewhere)  and  had no idea what I had talked to the first about and was really unprofessional.  She literall ytold me "that's the way it is"  and hung  on me when I said I needed to speak to someone who could give me a better answer than that.  The first person had told me she could have it removed. (I have both people's names and time of conversation noted)

I called again twice and was hung up on after holding for someone new.

Any one know how I can reach a professional person at eBay?  email address?

Thanks!

If for these shoes, I could see not wanting to pay any extra fees or having the sale go bad.

Re: need help with a seller fee question

Your buyer has made a legitimate purchase using a freight forwarder.  You were charged 1.6% international currency exchange fee because the buyers bank is outside the US.

The international fee has NOTHING to do with where the buyers bank is located.

You won't be shipping internationally you would be shipping to a US based freight forwarder. The freight forwarder then ships the item to the buyer outside the US.

I had buyers like this quite often without any problems. Now I ship with eBay's International Shipping program so I don't receive any more international fees. I ship to eBay's hub they handle the rest including any returns or cases.
So, just package up the purchase and ship it.

They said I could indeed cancel said  order as having trouble with the address and do so without getting dinged by eBay.

You got bad (incorrect) advice. There is NO problem with the address and saying there is a problem is not being truthful.

You don't want to ship internationally and you aren't shipping internationally. The buyer supplied a US address and you should ship to that buyer at that address.

Thanks again.

I would think that would apply to an international sale or a domestic one. At least with the item going through a freight forwarder you have the potential of some seller protection in the case of a claim. I can also relate to not wanting to pay the additional 1.65% in international fees.

The issue with shipping internationally has been an ongoing issue for a long time and it is kind of a double edged sword. There are tens of thousands of US registered buyers who may be overseas either temporarily or have family or friends living overseas. Sellers who block shipping to foreign countries basically cut off that segment of the market.

Were eBay to provide the ability to block registered international buyers that would allow sellers to prohibit sales to the tens of thousands of foreign buyers who are living either permanently or temporarily in the US as well as potential foreign buyers buying and sending items to friends or family in the US.

EBay could reduce a couple of issues by doing away with the international fee, as a lot of CC companies have done, and improving the seller protection when items go through a freight forwarder. The protections are there in writing but eBay seems to waffle on the policy all too often.

Sounds like that CS rep gave you a one time courtesy pass. I wouldn't expect that on future transactions.

You said it took a few tries so it sounds like other reps gave you correct advice and the last rep may have gone rogue.

FYI kyle@ebay - can you have this CS contact reviewed just to make sure the rep is following eBay internal policies? Perhaps eBay grants a courtesy pass every now and then, which is great for this seller, but if the rep gave the seller wrong info saying it's OK to cancel an order to a freight forwarder using 'problem with address' then that rep needs coaching so they don't keep steering sellers into a situation that will result in seller penalties for abusing the cancellation policy. Thanks in advance!

Hey @wastingtime101 thanks for checking in.  It does appear this was incorrect info given.  We do not give a "pass" for using the incorrect cancellation code.  We'll be sure to look into the contact and provide appropriate coaching.

Thanks for confirming that kyle@ebay .

Despite @gentle_offers saying they are not reading any replies, I am tagging them with hopes they'll see your post.

Only sold  to the the  50 United  State, US Protectorates, APO & FPO but on occasions  would sell few items to a Canadian buyer  they would have the item shipped to a US location near the border they saved $$ .  they  lived  close to the border & had a connection in the US.

@gentle_offers

Yes sellers can file a Cancellation for having a problem with the buyer's address IF there really is that problem.  All sellers can do that.  But if you don't have a problem with the buyers address and are just using this option because it avoids you getting a Defect, that you can get in trouble for and Ebay does not what sellers abusing the Cancellation process.
