need help very confused!

I listed an item for 500 dollars. i got a bidder that looked like a scam but i went through with the process. he bidded my buy it now amount and in the bid message said text him or email him because he had questions.. i did and he said he wanted me to add 2 100 dollar gift cards for his grandkids and he would give me the money on top of the item on ebay. i knew it was a scam so i told him about it. the buyer never was going to pay for it its been sitting on waiting for payment since jan 11th. i opened a cancel transcation dispute the 2nd day i heard you're suppose to do a unpaid item dispute but i had no idea it's never happend to me before.. so now this buy got banned or something because his profile looks locked. i seen you can cancel the transaction case yourself after 7 days but i reported the buyer on the 16th to see if that would alert ebay to step in and i told them about the offsite messaging me and the buyer did. next thing i know my listing was removed so i can't cancel the case and make it and unpaid case or do anything with the item number and i checked up and down my messages and emails and ebay hasn't explained to me why thanks for reading i just want this all cleared away.

so after making a cancel transaction case i can't close it and open an unpaid item case correct? so what do i do if ebay removed my listing and the buyers account is  unactive and has no intentions of canceling or buying.

Check your account details to see whether the final value fee has already been credited.

It seems that if ebay has credited you the FVF.

You recognized the gift card scam but...

in the future, ignore such requests to text or email. Never do that. All communications should stay in ebay messages.

No way would I ever sell anything that expensive on ebay. You are more likely to lose it than get paid for it.

When you have no idea what to do, you should research what to do.

If you had gone to the Help & Contact link at the top of any eBay page and searched "my buyer did not pay", the online help would have given you easy instructions about how to handle a buyer who has not paid.

That's what it sounds like. Don't list a $500 gaming item as a new seller- you will attract the scammers. Build up a solid selling history and knowledge of site policies before you consider listing something that expensive.
