messages viewed on site vs email copy

Got a question notice something and was going to tell all details but short/sweet.

We use the on site copy of messages.

The on site copies of messages from people in foreign countries don't have that info anywhere, and the subject line in the inbox is in English as is whole message. Also there is no way to check/get to their FB.

Went to delete the email copy.

The email copy subject line is in FRENCH, as they live in France . The body is in English, and there are individual links to profile and FB.

NOW the question makes sense. They're not drunk, they're FRENCH!

Well maybe they are drunk but still

Why are the on site and email copies different?

Re: messages viewed on site vs email copy

This is due to an annual increase in system activity experienced during this period, which has caused processing delays.

Re: messages viewed on site vs email copy

Again the real question is why did ebay remove important information - the message sender's location needed to do shipping discounts - from the on site copies of messages.

If for 'account safety' then why leave it on the email copy?

Why was I not told up front the person was in France. Or for that matter told a USA city/state if from 'here', again to figure out shipping discounts.

You'd have to ask Ebay why.

Re: messages viewed on site vs email copy

Happened again - Question about packing a record in two boxes and shipping cost - answer '$4 plus' - reply 'that's really cheap' ---

Check email copy. They are in Österreich,  German for Austria

Price to there is $34 plus.

Would have been nice to know that at the beginning.

Can someone point this out to the blues box people to see what they say/think about this - no idea how to do that

Re: messages viewed on site vs email copy

Learned another 'fun fact' about the new system -

Person send a message at midnight our time, then another two hours later and then one last one this morning.

The [message] thing shows a one, the 'bell' says three, and the on site message page shows one message.

Open it and there is one question shown ... After sending answer I realized ebay put all three together as one big message with the 'older' one hidden 'above' what's I'm being shown until I roll the message 'up' - so now answer the other two questions.

The email page shows three messages.

Yes, the new system threads the emails.

Yup, they now read like text messages.   I just had one of these & b/c the title was in a foreign language, I was able to look at her ID & figure out where she was.  I just tried to figure out how I did it, but she wound up buying & so I know longer see the original title, it's been replaced with the purchase info.  So I apologize I don't recall exactly how I did it, but I was able to follow a link to her ID somehow & find out what country it was.  Though it's not foolproof b/c she wrote perfect English, so if she had written the title in English, I wouldn't have been aware she was in another country.  Unless of course that's all being auto-translated, I'm not sure.

Re: messages viewed on site vs email copy

I guess you didn't read the original post - on the email copy the subject line is in 'their' language, English or foreign, and it shows location like the on-site copy did, and has individual clickable links - ID to profile or store, and FB, again like the on site one did.

But from what you wrote it seems that you see the 'foreign' subject line on the on-site copy - as you also said 'it' read like a text message.

Us - on site all subjects are in english, no links and if they sent two or more messages, all one big run on mess.

Email shows has whatever their language is and has links and are shown individually
