I just sold a camping twin size air mattriss. The buyer then emails me (directly to the email used for paypal, not through ebay) saying this:

"Hi I bought a single air mattress I will give you more than it was ok? Please recieve the $$ in cash when you get home. Sorry for buying it I want to sleep with our kids. The big one take to much space. Thank you!💔"

I don't know if she wants to over pay for the item or cancel the transaction. What should I do?

My take on it is that she wants to cancel because she found a cheaper and/or smaller one somewhere else.

I would respond in short declarative sentences that will slide through Google Translate (e.g. no slang and no abbreviations), saying something like this:

"Do you want to cancel this sale? Please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you."

If you can make a good guess as to what her native language is, push the text through Google Translate yourself, and paste it in below your English text. See if that works.

Sounds to me like she has now realized the bed she bought from you is too big for her needs so she went out and bought a smaller one somewhere else.   Now, she no longer wants yours  but feels bad that you will be out the sale and is offering to pay you extra for the trouble.

I'd just message her back and say:    "If you wish to cancel your order, please message me back confirming that is what you would like to do and I will ask eBay to cancel the sale.    Thank you."

Can hardly wait to see what sort of message she sends you next.  😉

I would copy her email into an ebay email and ask her to please clarify the meaning.  That way there is a record for ebay to see, if need be, that they initially asked to cancel.

My item is a twin size air mattriss. There isn't a smaller one she could have purchased. First she says she wants it to sleep with their kids so I reason that she wants to cancel to buy a bigger one. Then she states that "the big one take to much space" so I reason she wants a small size like my item. I want to cancel the transaction but would like her to request it. I messaged her but I have doubts that my message will be understood.

I have messaged with the buyer. She denies emailing me and says she wants the mattress. This is very strange because the gmail address that sent the message is identical to the ebay user name. I will ship it on Monday!

@member5150 - (Besides the language issue), I think what may be contributing to the confusion is the fact that bed sizes aren't universal.  What is called a single/twin bed in the US isn't necessarily how it's known/described in other parts of the world.

See: https://separatedbyacommonlanguage.blogspot.com/2012/07/bed-sizes.html

Out of curiosity, when you look at the PayPal transaction record, where was this purchase supposed to be shipped to?  If a US address, have you Googled to see if it really is the address of a freight forwarder?

One more question...   Did you have only one size of this mattress available?  Just wondering if what she is trying to say is that she wants the larger one instead of what she purchased so therefore she will pay the extra money to get it (?)

Perhaps she bought a bigger one from another seller and emailed you on accident.

@member5150

Agreed.  Very weird.   Ignore my addl post down-thread, then.

Just be sure to keep all correspondence with this person within eBay Messaging as you may not have seen/heard the last from her by the time this transaction is said and all done.

She messaged back with very clear English. She now says that the email that was sent was intended for her fiancé. It is still extremely strange. I listened to a podcast yesterday about money laundering and now this strange sale makes me think of human trafficking.......

Well, that explanation makes more sense. Sounds like she was apologizing to the fiance because she didn't want him to be mad about her purchasing it.  The heart at the end of the message also makes sense now, too.    Hopefully, since she only paid $1 for it she won't be so petty as to want to return it for some lame reason.  If she does, just do a full refund and let her keep it.  Not worth thowing good money after bad.

That makes a lot of sense to me now, it sounds like maybe the fiance purchased a larger sized air mattress initially, and she wanted a smaller one that doesn't take up as much space?  When my kids were little, I would sometimes sleep in their rooms, rather than having them come into mine. At least until they fell asleep, so they didn't feel alone, to transition them to their rooms/big bed.  An air mattress would've been much nicer than the floor!
