The first one is obviously Moonbat Garbage (I love that phrase but have to give credit to someone else.) It also mentions "for a Fee", of course. And so, are the Authenticators going to come to my house before I ship something? Thus pushing me out past my Handling time and getting a shipping defect? Do we ship to the Authenticator and they claim they never received (the highly valuable item) then turn around and sell it through their own channels ... OR they repack it poorly, it gets damaged and the Buyer returns it?
This one gets the Swiss Cheese Award ... a few too many holes for my liking.

Ha! The same group that has been lobbying for this for too many years...and there are actually no authenticators. It's a group of self-described experts who say their years of experience (and whether they like the seller) makes them "experts".
The bag manufacturers do not even authenticate their own bags...and that doesn't even get into the "very good fakes" that the "authenicators" can't even guess at.
What an utter mess - and shame on eBay, who ought to look back at the tawdry history of bag experts, including the firing of an eBay Veep over it!
On diamond jewelry mine are raded and checked by a GIA graduate with decades in the business. Will theirs have the same credentials.
And with diamonds it is so subjective on clarity and color, that with GIA you often need a third member to break the tie. So what if the reports do not agree?
yes.. and if it is by pictures..then some things just aren't going to really be able to know..i would think....
i also wonder how will it show or say on the listing? some sort of gold star? that is passes the authenticators?

lol... well i think it maybe all in pictures ...that's the weird part... some things maybe a bunch of pics are good enough, but there are things i doubt it is a good way...
and I wonder how seller will react to the FEE... even high priced stuff..it adds up...and the question, what if something is returned and is trash...
and no one wants to come to your house! lol

I was going to wait for the laughter to subside on this offer, but what the heck, let's get started...
The elephant in the room here, IMHO, is that this inspection doesn't seem to do anything positive regarding a buyer claim of an empty box or shipping damage (the latter seeming more likely, since eBay will be the last ones to (re)pack it). The potential for fingerpointing between the seller, the buyer, and the "inspection" service seems mind-boggling. How do they plan to make three-way disputes any easier to resolve than two-way disputes?
We'll have to see the details once released. I imagine they would rule in favor of the seller in any snad/empty box claims. I think what they are aiming for is finally some seller protection for higher end items. It's better than what we have now which is zero seller protection.
I said I like it, and I do, in theory. The details once released may prove to be utter disaster.

Agreed ... just too many things that can and will go wrong plus more threads on complaints about the Authentication Fees. I wonder what they pay the person for coming up with these, I could do that job.
btw ... took a while in search but found this ... a moon, a bat, a garbage bag = Moonbat Garbage

Regarding the question of whether the item will be shipped to the authenticator, or if the authenticator is just going to rely on photos and description: Their wording is pretty clear that the authenticator will be getting the handbag first. Note the last sentence below (emphasis mine):
"[...] there will be messaging on their listing that highlights that the item will be reviewed by a professional authenticator before it’s delivered to the buyer. If the item sells, a professional will authenticate the item. If the item passes inspection, the item will be forwarded to the buyer."
Ref: http://pages.ebay.com/authentication/index.html
So the authenticator sends it on to the buyer if he thinks it's legit. If he thinks it's fake, I'm not sure what they'd do at that point. Sending it back to the seller would be one option; confiscating it (with refund to the buyer) would be another, although the latter seems likely to open up a whole 'nother can of worms.

But, but, but ..... They have already done that! A few years ago, remember? Everything that was fake or counterfeit was shipped to a place in, I think, Arizona(?). Some folks said that it was then auctioned or sold off and then resold. I don't really know what happened to it, but there was some 'discussion' about it, at the time.

When ebay brings out something like this, the thing to do is wait, and watch, and see, and read this board......first six months into the program, will we be reading horror stories here? That's what is terrific about reading this board. Keeping up with the latest and greatest and disasters! You can bet on one thing, I won't be one of the first six months guinea pigs.

I'm wondering about the cost and shipping time delay's. Who are these authenticators and what makes them qualified to verify all designer brands new and vintage. Are the Authenticator's VERO members? What happens to my handling time when they get backed up and can't handle the load.
I found this in a article: "Once a sale is complete, the authenticator will personally inspect the item, (which sounds as if we ship to them first) and then it will be forwarded to the buyer. If, after passing the examination, the consumer receives the goods and they turn out to be fake, eBay says it will refund double the price of the original purchase price." (which sounds as if eBay pays and seller refunds)
Ok so on top of a fee, we ship the item to a random authenticator which may or may not cost more money to ship depending on location, who pays for shipping from authenticator to buyer, do we pay extra postage as part of the service fee??
What happens to sellers that have opt into the Guarantee shipping time? What happens if Authenticator doen't ship out fast enough or item is lost or damaged or forwards the wrong item? Buyers file INR cases? If authenticator says it doesn't pass, we have to pay them to return or do they keep as counterfeit?
Don't get me wrong I have no problem authenticating my items, I just feel when this becomes available to all, I feel there is going to be shipping time nightmares and feedback issues. It would be nice if we could get them authenticated prior to listing and get like a authenicated tag attached so you can't send a different item??
Just like GSP is supposed to open and verify each item, we now know they can't keep up and verify all items.

I am interested in if it might expand to cover precious stones, gold, and silver items. Those are the items I have that I am currently unwilling to list on ebay because of theft. Once verified, far less chance of being sent back a box of rocks.
