I'm not sure they want to authenticate in person. They will probably do it through pictures and purchase receipts.

You are the first GUIDE I have seen on here that was not posting stuff about OMG Ebay is Awesome

Can't believe that for years people have suggested such a thing to cut down on buyers claiming fake and now all we have is reason why it won't work without it even being put in place.
You ask - they came up with something but it's never good enough - well I think it's a step in the right direction.

Personally, I'm wondering what is going to happen when 'his' authenticator (ebay's) bumps heads with her/his (the buyer's) authenticator?
Who is going to decide which is the better authenticator? Never mind, ebay, of course (at their sole discretion).
Then, is the 'double-your-money-back guarantee' going to be the same as ebay's 'money-back guarantee' - the seller pays?
Yes, I, too, would like to know what the specifics are for the return of the authenticated item. Does the 'same authenticator' authenticate it? Or does ebay have yet another authenticator, authenticate it? Or, is it 'just stuff it in a box/bag'?
And, will it be for a return for ANY reason? If not, why?
How about for 'Platform' integrity and 'User' confidence, there is outgoing authentication AND incoming authentication? Or is this going to be half-way measures?
I'm sure lots of folks can come up with the questions that are hard to answer. It's early, not enough coffee and just thinking about the easy questions, so far.

@emerald40 wrote:So does that mean if an authenticator authenticates it, then a buyer cannot file SNAD, and will have to keep the item if the seller does not take returns?
And if not, will the item be authenticated on the way back to make sure a buyer did not do a switcheroo?
yep i thought of that too...how they going to help that part? uummmm

@southern*sweet*tea wrote:So who are these expert authenticators, anyway?
well that is also interesting part , that isn't wexplained yet... but who known ..maybe the Experts that help now? but giving them the seal of approval and some type of procedure... who know exactly... maybe a select group of Ebay CS reps?...

@d-k_treasures wrote:Well, the first one should be amusing.
The second - you need a store and can do most of that now anyway, can't you?
well yes the markdown manager can be done now..but I looked a little at this..and I believe it widens or adds features that you can use...different type of sales and discounts methods... so a bigger better Manager, i guess? said no fee...so sounds like an improvement... and not like the pay to play Promotions thing.

well true , but they put it right there on the Ebay open stuff and so seems like Now they gotta do something... and most of that stuff sem to say 'Fall"... but who knows ..we'll see

It is a step in the right direction IF it is handled properly - which could also be taken to mean handled without ebay's bottom line in mind, with REAL, NAMED authenticators and on a NON-BIASED basis. Oh, yeah, and with TRANSPARENCY.

Ha! The same group that has been lobbying for this for too many years...and there are actually no authenticators. It's a group of self-described experts who say their years of experience (and whether they like the seller) makes them "experts".
The bag manufacturers do not even authenticate their own bags...and that doesn't even get into the "very good fakes" that the "authenicators" can't even guess at.
What an utter mess - and shame on eBay, who ought to look back at the tawdry history of bag experts, including the firing of an eBay Veep over it!

On diamond jewelry mine are raded and checked by a GIA graduate with decades in the business. Will theirs have the same credentials.
And with diamonds it is so subjective on clarity and color, that with GIA you often need a third member to break the tie. So what if the reports do not agree?

yes i've wondered about these "experts".... i ask one to see if they would know anything or are they the authenticators now.... I say it is a good step for ebay if they want to help this 'Trash" and sellers who sell fake...maybe it can help stop some...BUT for returns ? yikes....
I always thought it was weird that some were calling themselfs "expert" but no where did it give a ebay list of the "expert" that were actually ok to go by..and for cases..CS could go by there words...
but NOWHERE was/is there a list.... just these "expert" and maybe or not they are...who would actually know.... like me a 6 foot blonde hunk of a man...who knows.... ok i fuss up...not me.
07-29-2017 06:36 AM
I know that for me to opt in, I would want to see these so called experts' credentials
07-29-2017 06:41 AM
@emerald40 wrote:I know that for me to opt in, I would want to see these so called experts' credentials
exactly... I mean at least someone in ebay verifies them and maybe says alittle about there skill or background...Just like if you walked into a place...you'd hope there was something that told you who the expert was...and not the cleaning person who happen to be standing there..... or my thrift store lady...BUT she know her stuff!...
BUT Different Categories would have there "go to" list of experts.... and ebay officially would have to select and back them up ... then in a CASE ..the CS rep could use it as proof or verification ...something...
and of course i say this because I too am an "expert".... oh not really, i hand my fingers crossed.
