I had an item listed for 40 plus shipping.
I received notification it sold for 10.00 plus shipping.
I received no offers for the item let alone 10 dollars.
The highest discount I would ever offer is 10%
WHAT IS GOING ON?????

This has happened to me on four occasions, in one case, a $5000 item selling for $250, ebay were randomly applying discounts between 75/90%, I had a fairly lengthy involvement with them at the time, (they never did explain how it happened but they did accept full responsibility) I cancelled all four sales with no repercussions, no negative feedback, and no fees, you do need to contact ebay, they know of the issue, it is well documented.

Kind of hard to tell exactly what happened but if you provide a item number, i am sure someone here can try to help figure out what may have happened.

Maybe you sent out offers and you were trying to send them out at 10% off but you accidentally sent them for $10?

Or when you went to type the 4 in 40 you accidentally fat fingered the 1.

That has happened to me before.

item sold for less than price it was listed..
No, it didn't.
You are mistaken.

If the following is the item it appears it sold for the $40 you were asking. Is there something in the order details that gives you the impression it sold for $10? Can you post a screenshot of the order details?

Your screenshot is from search @dbfolks166mt which does not show actual sold prices. Seller Initiated Offer (SIO) pricing can be seen through Product Research (Terapeak) and that tool shows the item sold for $10.

Indeed @sapphire_studio , that was the first thought to occur to me, as well.
When you send offers to buyers @prettykittybeth100 , if you originally set up your SIO using "offer amount" instead of "percentage off", that means buyers were sent offers for $10 and not 10% off.
When we view that listing's purchase history, we can see an offer was accepted on this item. We know it was not the buyer using the "make offer" button on the listing because the price in search does not have a strikethrough. That means a seller initiated offer is the answer.

An offer on that item was accepted apparently. (looks like I was late to the party)

I called customer support.
The buyer never sent an offer. I received no notification of an offer. In fact I was gone last night.
They elevated it.
I am certain this has to do with EBay problems.
This is scary.

I got it resolved today. There was no offer it sold without my consent. The cust. support person told me its happening a lot. They don't know how these buyers are doing it but its like they are hacking the system. They allowed me to cancel the order with penalties.
They said if they find this same buyer doing this the third time they are kicked out. If they try to establish a new account they will banned from EBay.
So just call cust. support. Ebay is aware of this problem.

When something is really easy to mess up and millions of people are using it then of course messing it up will be an extremely common thing.
If the ebay system was RANDOMLY sending offers then it would be unlikely that those random offers would seem to heavily favor amounts that are easy to typo or amounts that were easy to come up with or amounts that tended to be exactly the same in dollars as percent off totals sent.
Also, if this was happening randomly then it would be happening to the megasellers all the time instead of favoring part time hobby sellers who often manage ebay on their phone.

This strikes me as pure nonsense from customer service. There would be widespread seller outrage if this was truly happening "a lot" due to shadowy hacking that eBay can't explain.
