as a new seller, i realize feedback from buyers is important in establishing credibility, but I'm finding that not many buyers (so far) seem inclined to leave feedback. The little i have received has been very positive, but it is only coming in at a 40% rate. I'm quick to ship and cordial in communications--in my few sales, i've had no complaints directed my way, but buyers don't seem to want to take the time to leave feedback. is this the norm? thanks in advance for any thoughts or input.

40% may be high. We get less.

It's actually not normal at all! That's way above normal. The going rate is more like 25 percent.

Exactly. Out of 10 sales last week, only three buyers left feedback, as of today (this may go up, after all, yesterday was Valentine's Day). I hope yours will go up, also. Buyers have a long time to leave feedback, months, and some are only logging in once a week, if that.
Happy Sunday!

Sellers seem to report feedback received in the 20-60% range. I get about 55% from my buyers.

We ship quickly. We ship what is shown, and described.
We leave all buyers feedback soon after shipping.
Many buyers these days do not leave feedback. Just no reason for them to bother doing it.
We get between 20-30%.
40% is good.
Feedback from buyers seems to vary greatly by category.
Getting no feedback ................ is better than ....... getting bad feedback.

I think it makes a difference with what you sell. I sell handmade items I make myself. My feedback received percentage averages about 60%.

I agree that it depends on what you sell. I have four separate accounts - feedback for collectibles and crafts is in the 40% range - books closer to 30% - sports/barware 20% if I'm lucky. Female and long time buyers tend to leave feedback more often than male or new buyers.

I believe you're right about that. Recently I had someone get back to me with answering a message that I sent about three months ago!

thanks for the input--and GO STEELERS!!!

IMO, 40% is pretty darn good. Mine is more like 25%-30%, which is normal for me. I leave feedback after an item is paid for and shipped out.
Most of the feedback I do receive is from buyers and not resellers.

@jack_bucks_ghost You failed to say when you leave FB for your Buyers?
I leave it while the label is printing out, then its done, I've thanked them for the purchase and I don't have to worry about leaving it in the future.
In almost 5 years FB from Buyers has been pretty consistent between 55% - 60% .... I think a lot depends on the categories one sells in and ultimately the Buyers who buy int hose categories.

mr_lincoln yeah, i did neglect to include that info--honestly, i never thought to factor that into how i was approaching the issue. i've now started leaving feedback when i get a tracking number posted. I email the buyer about the tracking number (my hope is they see i left feedback when they jump over to check the shipping status). I must admit that i was probably premature with the op--I don't think i've had enough sales to really gauge the feedback percentage yet. and i think you're spot on with the observation regarding categories and types of buyers. thanks for your input and insights--always very much appreciated!!!

I suspect a lot of eBay sellers and buyers forget how leisurely they are about giving positive feedback (and how strongly inclined they are to complain or lash out) when they do business away from eBay. Not accusing you of that. Just reminding you it’s human nature for people to rush to complain and to take their time offering positive feedback. It used to bug me but now that I live in a world where I’m asked to rate or review some kind of customer service multiple times on a daily basis, I am surprised anytime I get a review. As long as it’s a pleasant surprise, that’s all I really care about.

point well taken!!! i think as a new seller, i'm wanting to do this the right way and maybe expecting a bit too much (honestly, i just assumed leaving feedback was a given--but i realize that is silly and naive of me). many thanks for your input!!!
