if i close my account this year, can i access the information for tax purposes next year?

if i close my account, will i have access to it later for tax purposes? the new id requirement is about all i can stand...closing after many years on eBay. But concerned that i won't be able to access information during tax time. How does that work?

Since you have recent transactions, it'll be a few months before they would close the account.

Have A Great Day.

The 1099 (assuming your sales were high enough to require one) will be sent to you anyway, regardless of your account status. I don't think you can really close your account until some period of time after your last sale, so you should still be able to access other statistics as needed.

There's really no point in actually closing your account anyway; just stop using it if you don't want to sell anything. You might find something you want to buy in future.

You should wait until after tax season to close your account  as may lose access to EBAY reports.   EBAY reports show important info that you will need for business deductions (EBAY fees, shipping costs, returned merchandise).

Of course, EBAY will still report your income and send 1099K to you and IRS (even if your account is closed).

No reason to actually close your account.

I wish you the best of luck in the future selling online in the United States without identification.

No need to actually close your account. You can remove all of your listings and close an actual store, but your account can remain as is. Sometime next year, when you are satisfied you have all the info you need, then you can come back and officially close your account. Best of luck to you....

What do you mean by new ID requirement?

Keep in mind that you will never ever again be able to sell online anywhere in the USA thanks to the new requirement that ALL sellers MUST send their SS # to Ebay.  This is true for every selling platform in the USA.  Technically, ebay does NOT close any account until 6 months after your last sale.  This is to make sure that the buyer doesn't file a return/chargeback.     Also, do NOT be surprised if ebay holds your payments.  If they do, you can recover them by sending the social security number.  If you fail to do that, eventually ebay is forced to send the funds to your home state.   Then you can try to get them back by of course, signing into your state government account.   Don't be surprised if they ask for your social security number to claim the funds.

You will still get a 1099 sent to your name/address and of course, the IRS will also get one too if you received more than 600 dollars in funds.

Finally, every seller here had to give Ebay their SS#. If you wrote in order to get some sympathy, you won't get it.  Nearly all of us sell (many with different IDS) and we gave our SS# months ago.  You were always supposed to report your income anyway.  Now Congress (under the Trump administration by the way) has made it law for every online seller to get a 1099 if they receive 600 dollars and up in payments.

This was also done to keep ebay safe.  Those without the proper IDs and SS# will get booted out eventually.
