how hard is this? why can't ebay block a buyer from messaging when you've blocked them from buying?

i don't understand the issue with ebay's inability to block buyers from messaging you when you've blocked them from buying.

on facebook you can block someone from contacting you on the platform itself & thru messenger.

but like many OLD problems with ebay they can not or prefer not to block a buyer from messaging you when you've blocked them from buying.

or maybe it's not a blocked buyer, maybe it's just a buyer who won't stop contacting you for any reason, maybe multiple messages to lower your price or.....

the only work around is to either leave their messages unread & deleted or to reply to their message stating further messages will go unread & deleted. this usually works but do expect them to try to get the last word with yet another reply but DO NOT READ IT DO NOT ENGAGE just delete.

it's "2024"  blocking-blocked buyers or any buyer from messaging you if you prefer not to hear from them should be an easy option

eBay Message doesn't take effect within 24 hours. Lots of problems with eBay, they don't take our security and business serious. They don't care.  I raise this concern in the past nothing has been done.

I also raise the concern about reporting people in the message, finally they did something about it.

This same concern falls within eBay watcher also. Same issue with Watcher and sent offer for watcher. It gets disable for 48 hours, until the next offer sent. ( They promote user by sending offer ) lol the irony.

I've been trying to follow what your complaint is here. If I'm understanding this, you've been saying that once an offer has been sent to watchers, you cannot modify the listings for 48 hours; is that right? That limitation would be because the terms of your offer to watchers cannot be changed until their window of opportunity to respond has expired (48 hours).

If you have the ability to send a second offer to new watchers (those who were not already watching at the time of your previous offer), you would effectively be extending that 48-hour window again, since that second batch of watchers would have their own 48-hour window for response.

Once your current offer(s) have expired, I guess you would be free to make changes to the listing at that point; e.g. lower your price to whatever the previous offer(s) quoted as a special, and see if anyone new bites this time.

I quite surprised to hear that a "blocked" ID can still message you.

Word from an eBay "blue" was that eBay changed a policy where someone could choose to block, or not block messages when ID's are added to the "blocked" list to an eBay policy of......................... "block the ID then messages are also block even if the box to block messages  is not checked"

kyle@ebay ..........  what is the current status of that policy?

Have a great day.

Not Kyle but I suspect the old rule of blocked buyers being able to contact you if there has been an actual transaction in the past xx days (30?).

Don't know for sure if that still applies,  don't know at all if the OP had an actual recent transaction or not.

Last word that I have seen (I miss things) was

that an ID block would block communication.

That block would apply even if the seller did not check the box to block communication.

That block would be applied even if the ID had been involved in a transaction.

Hi @buytodayshipnextday

In the past, a seller’s ability to block communication from a BBL’d buyer would be delayed if:

1.  Seller and buyer were involved in a recent transaction.

2.  Seller responded to a buyer’s eBay message.

I don’t know for sure whether that’s still the case.

Your complaint contradicts a supposed recent policy change.

@wastingtime101 Posted about the change a few months ago here... it has remained a hot topic as many sellers, myself included are heated about it.

 https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Changes-to-Buyer-Blocks/td-p/33977166

Supposedly buyers who are blocked are automatically blocked from messaging you whether you want it or not, not a seller's choice (completely contrary to what you are saying and I assume experiencing, OP.)

Many have complained and WANT the ability to communicate with a buyer that they have blocked (block a bad buyer after bad experience but continue communication for customer service reasons). You're expressing the opposite sentiment, and that baffles me as apparently the new (unwanted change by some) supposedly had already solved your problem.

so what the heck is going on here?...

Exactly what I've heard, including from wastingtime, and was railed against by a number of people. EBay blues were tagged and passing our feedback along about our objections to the  policy

Don't tell me they made another policy change (in this case, a reversal of the recent policy change) and didn't inform us AGAIN!?!?!?

Adding a question for kyle@ebay :

When someone is added to your BBL, how long does it take for the block to go into effect for (1) blocking purchases and (2) blocking messages.

This is the second report I've seen that messages are getting through despite the BBL. Has eBay reversed course and finally taken action based on our feedback - allowing sellers to choose if they want to receive communications from blocked buyers? Or is this yet another system lag where the block takes time before it's in effect?

I can't decide what would be more mind-boggling...

Is it worse that there would be a delay/lag in the system related to blocks?

OR

Is it worse that EBay may have made another policy change without informing us? .. (Although I'm happy if they reacted/responded to our feedback/complaints, just why not at least TELL us?)

Which was yet another bad decision made for sellers by ebay without notice or consultation.

Without question the above is worse.

If eBay gave sellers back the choice that would mean a policy change that very few sellers were even aware of (& how it may be negatively impacting them) has been reverted back to what it was before.
