i don't understand the issue with ebay's inability to block buyers from messaging you when you've blocked them from buying.
on facebook you can block someone from contacting you on the platform itself & thru messenger.
but like many OLD problems with ebay they can not or prefer not to block a buyer from messaging you when you've blocked them from buying.
or maybe it's not a blocked buyer, maybe it's just a buyer who won't stop contacting you for any reason, maybe multiple messages to lower your price or.....
the only work around is to either leave their messages unread & deleted or to reply to their message stating further messages will go unread & deleted. this usually works but do expect them to try to get the last word with yet another reply but DO NOT READ IT DO NOT ENGAGE just delete.
it's "2024" blocking-blocked buyers or any buyer from messaging you if you prefer not to hear from them should be an easy option

This is the second report I've seen that messages are getting through despite the BBL. Has eBay reversed course and finally taken action based on our feedback - allowing sellers to choose if they want to receive communications from blocked buyers? Or is this yet another system lag where the block takes time before it's in effect?
According to the Blocked Buyer List instructions, "Members on that list will be unable to bid, buy, make an offer, or send you messages on any of your listings until you remove them from the list." (Emphasis theirs) That last part seems to have been written before the switch below implied that the message blocking is actually optional.
@wastingtime101 : So we can test this, I've put you on my Blocked Buyer List (temporarily 😉), and also selected this checkbox on the Buyer Requirements page:
Send me a test message (if you can find a location for doing so) and let us know what happens.
One thing that puzzles me: What is that other slide switch (above) supposed to do when it's Off (like now) or when it's On? If it's Off, how does that differ from simply leaving the "Don't allow blocked bidders" switch Off in the first place?

The "Apply above settings" button only becomes active if you make changes to your buyer requirement settings. Using that button applies the new settings to the active and future listings.

So in other words, when it's Off, the new settings are only applied to... future listings? I can't think of anything else that it could apply to that makes any sense.
There has got to be a better way to express whatever the heck that switch is supposed to do. I actually switched it On and then stared at it for a minute, in case the advisory message of "Existing bids will not be affected" would update to something else, but it didn't.

Sorry did not see this yesterday @a_c_green as I signed off after I put up that last post. I'd assume by now any lag in application will have lapsed since you added me to your BBL. Gotta run, busy weekend. Sorry. But if @ajs_coins_and_alchemy is around they might run the test with you otherwise we can wait until Monday to see what Kyle says.

I'm here @a_c_green , I'll run the test with you if you want.

Hi, I'm back. I've added @ajs_coins_and_alchemy to my blocklist, so fire away, and let us know what happens.
@wastingtime101, I've left you on my BBL for now in case you want to bang on it when you're back next week.

@a_c_green 4 minutes after you posted that you had me on your block list, I still have "contact seller" button available on your listing.
Fired off two messages to you, one via "Contact Seller" on listing and one via "Contact" on your member/seller home page. ---- sent 10 minutes after your post confirming I am blocked from you.
Edited to add, confirmation I am blocked, I tried to Add to cart and was unable.

All righty, I can confirm that as of 12:13 Central time, I've received no messages from you, neither in my Messages page here or my associated email account elsewhere. I assume (and we can try this to be sure) that if I toggle that slide switch off but leave your ID on my Blocked list, you should be able to send a message that will reach me.
I think the worst error we may be looking at here is that claim (in the page text) that the blocked buyer will not see the Contact link for the seller. That's apparently not correct, although its functionality seems to work as advertised, dropping blocked buyer messages on the floor instead of delivering them.
P.S. If it's still allowing you to send the messages, despite their not arriving on my side, do you still receive copies of your outbound message in your own email (via that optional checkbox on your Send Message page)? That is, it goes through the motions of letting you think your message to me went out successfully, even though it was actually blocked behind the scenes.

Just to be extra sure, Buyer Requirements says "Contact Seller" removed from Q&A page. I believe this is the Q&A page. (I get to this page by clicking "Contact Seller" on main listing). I still have Contact Seller at bottom of this page (which I believe is the aforementioned Q&A page).
Not sure if the messages I sent went through, but at least the Buyer Requirements Setting either is lagged or defective in removing "Contact Seller" button

Let's run it @a_c_green

Can you please let me know whether (via the "Send a copy to my personal email address" checkbox) you can copy outbound messages to yourself that we know are not actually delivered to the recipient?
I will then turn the option Off and we can then see if it's working correctly to now allow messages from blocked senders to be received. It should, but to be honest, I don't trust eBay coding efforts any further than I could throw them by the leg.
(Sorry, playing a little catch-up on newer posts in this thread...)

HAHA! I never knew that button was there!
Sent you a message @ 12:26 CST, assuming you did not receive, received an immediate copy in my email. Copying myself has been confirmed to work. Gmail screenshot below

Okay, yes, I still have received no messages from you, so we can confirm that your own copies, that you do receive, do not prove that the recipient got them as well.
(Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing. At best it seems a little misleading to me. We could have a separate discussion about whether it's a good idea to tell blocked buyers that their messages are being blocked as well. They already know that their purchases are blocked.)
Moving on to un-select that message block now, but I will leave your ID on the BBL. Give me a minute to get that done, then try messaging me again...

Well, that's interesting... No. I still have no messages from you.
I have not touched that second slide switch, the one about "Apply above settings to active and future listings" (which I currently have set to Off). I wonder if we need to start messing with that one as well.
Here's what I'm going to do. I will set that second switch On. I will leave the Block Messages switch Off. Maybe the second switch forces an immediate application of the first switch's setting, which in theory would then allow you to contact me. Give me 15 seconds and then try again...
