how do I message a buyer who bid on my item? I only know his username.

I have an item for sale in an auction. I had a bid. I contacted an ebay agent and the agent said I have to wait until the end of the auction to accept the bid. Then the bid disappeared. An ebay agent then said he could find no evidence there had ever been a bid. I went back in my internet search history and found the page with the username of the bidder.

I contacted another agent and she said she was sorry that happened, that I could have accepted the offer, and there was nothing that could be done. So I am out $1050! No other bids.

So how do I contact the person who bid if I know his username? I don't see a way to send a message or search a buyer list.

Thanks.

A 'bid on an auction' and an 'offer' are 2 different worlds. Sounds like you got an 'offer' but didn't respond in time. There is nothing that can now be done.

You'll just have to relist, and watch for offers.

@janieben-8

Not advocating that you should do so, but.....................

You can contact any user that you know the ID for.

Go to your feedback page.  Then

after the backslash In the url where your ID is shown, remove it and enter that users ID. Hit enter

On the page that it takes you to you can click on "contact member".

You are out NOTHING. If the bidder retracted, or did not accept your offer then you just move on. There is no need to contact that person. Wait for another person to buy your item.

@janieben-8

How could you be out $1050 on the $850 listing? I'm confused...

You are not "out" any amount, because there was no sale and you still have the item.

Was there a bid on your auction in the amount of $1050, or were you sent an offer of $1050?  Big difference.  Frankly, I would be dubious about either, given that the opening bid is $850, furniture is very hard to sell at any price right now, and you have a very limited market because it is pick-up only.

I say forget whatever happened, and just let the current auction run as it is.

There was a bid for $1050. At that time it listed for $1050. Today I changed it to $850.

It was a bid on an auction. I wanted to accept the bid, but ebay agent said I could not do so until end of 7 day auction.

This is my first time selling an item, so am not sure if I did everything correctly. Just learning! 🙂

The customer service rep was wrong (or you misunderstood them).  A seller can end an auction at any time to sell to the current high bidder.

However, your current auction shows no signs of ever having received a bid.  When a bidder retracts a bid on an active auction (or when a seller cancels a bid), that will show up in the auction's bid history, and this auction shows no cancelations or retractions. Also, if an auction has received a bid, it would not be possible to revise it, such as decreasing the opening bid price. The revision history for your auction does show that you revised the opening bid yesterday morning.

I suspect, as mentioned in one of the posts above, that you auction did not get a bid, but you got an offer, and that offer expired.

Don't show a picture of the mirror if it's not included.

Totally agree.  Buyers expect to receive what is pictured, no matter how unreasonable that expectation might be.  Looking at the picture in your listing, the mirror appears to be part of the item you are selling, so perhaps it worked out better that the deal fell through.
