fraudulent returns

I just got a notice that an item  that I sold, buyer wants to return because they say that it is broken.

Now first of all, I know for a fact that the item functions perfectly. Although my auctions clearly show a no-return policy, Ebay will likely side with the buyer if I don't accept the return. But the thing is.......if I accept the return and the buyer is a scammer and sends back his broken part rather than the new one I sold them, just so they could get it free, what kind of recourse do I have?? Because I believe that is what is going on here. Sure, a seller can report a buyer if that happens.....and maybe the buyer gets a slap on the wrist while the seller is out a lot of money.....plus left with a different item than he sent the buyer. I'm thinking about not allowing a return for fear of that particular scenario. Any thoughts on this?

Re: fraudulent returns

No, you dont know for a fact that the item is not broken.Your no returns policy is for remorse returns only..not for snad. You have no options if the buyer returns a different item..part of selling online problems.

I'm learning how to play this game. Good to know next time I am the buyer.

As far as the return......guess I'll refuse it.

Many sellers may thank you for posting.

That will end badly for you if the buyer has opened a SNAD.

Might be what it takes to get ebay to revise its policies to better protect the seller.

Re: fraudulent returns

i know for a fact the buyer can't claim snad, but upon looking at my listing, although it showed at the top.. "no returns", down in the description it said warranty 60 days. So i guess i'm gonna roll the dice and see if the buyer returns the same product that i sold him/her.

Re: fraudulent returns

You don't have a choice. The buyer opened a SNAD. Many things could have happened between you testing and shipping the product, to them receiving and opening. Not accepting returns doesn't apply to this situation like others stated. You will have to to accept the return, receive the product back, and hope it is as it was shipped. Although, a suggestion I have is to first ask how the package arrived? If there is package damage, you may need to file a claim with the carrier as long as you obtained insurance for the item. Do not let them ship it back until you determine exactly what they mean by the product does not work. If they ship it back, and it was due to shipping damage, you will not be able to file that claim with the carrier.

Of course they can.

You seem to know a lot of things "for a fact".

The buyer has up to 180 days to claim SNAD.

Re: fraudulent returns

Sorry about your issue. I sell items with serial numbers. That is very helpful when proving the buyer did not send the same item back. I wonder if there is some sort of invisible marker you can use on your items and you can number the items you sell then be sure to make note of that item specific number in your auction. Take a picture of the item with your number on it for your records as well.

If a buyer pushes hard enough, you have virtually zero seller protection.

Re: fraudulent returns

Does not matter what you do...

if you are dealing with one of the many very savvy scammers on eBay...

they will find a way to steal your goods, and also do serious damage to your status as a Seller.

They are theives and liars, and will not care about the hardship that they cause for you...

and the eBay Staff will support them at every turn.

I think I'm going to make a youtube video. "HOW TO GET FREE STUFF ON EBAY!"

Since Ebay does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to support the sellers, perhaps making light of it and have lots of people abusing the system will force their hand and make some changes.
