Since EBay chooses to skim 10% of the final value fee for the shipping, it would seem our only choice is to inflate that shipping fee. This prevents us from charging an actual true shipping cost to our customers.

“Ebay may eventually have to pay back al related fees to thoses charged on shipping fee's, for it constitutes fraud on their behalf..”
It’s amazing to me how many lawyers sell stuff on eBay.
Good luck with your petition.

I understand why the shipping FVF was instituted, but...it seems like there should be a simple algorithm to prevent this. Say, if a seller lists an item and enters shipping method, dimensions and weight and their flat shipping cost exceeds a 10-15% increase over expected shipping, the listing couldn’t proceed. I’m sure I’m missing a parameter or two, but charging all sellers 10% on ever increasing shipping with a decreasing shipping discount, because of a handful shady sellers...well, it doesn’t seem reasonable.
I’ll keep paying it because it’s the only platform I’ve got results from, but there has to be a more equitable way.

An actual true shipping cost is not, has never been or will ever be just the cost of postage.
Good Luck Selling!

If you are a TRS seller and you also use free shipping you get 5% back on the item price which will always have the shipping costs built into the item price.
This is like getting a 5% discount on the shipping FVF.

When did TRS start getting 5% back on item price?

That is not how you should do it. It can come back to bite you as buyers are smart enough to see you gouged on shipping. It is easier to just add $1 to the asking price and leave shipping at actual cost.

No one said you have to offer the free shipping. If it is evil in your mind do NOT do it. As the old saying goes the devil made me do it, but that is not the case. NO ONE MADE YOU DO IT.

I really cannot see why the big fuss. Buyer pays you $x and eBay takes y% of it as FVF. Doesn't matter what you say is price and what is shipping. You got paid $x and ebay took their y% cut. There's no mystery about it. You know up front exactly what your cost will be. It's on you to decide what your pricing and shipping charges should be to make a profit.

When did TRS start getting 5% back on item price? Are we just making stuff up now?
Excuse me. I should have said TRS+ and I meant 10% which is even better than 5%. If you are a TRS+ seller with free shipping your discount is actually for both your built in shipping cost and your item price provided you meet the (handling and return requirements).

Ebay is no more "charging fees on shipping" any more than Paypal is or any number of other places that calculate fees on the total. It's a method of calculating fees that are fair to everyone. As far as where to put it, you put it with the other fees you have to cover. Most people cover fees in their item price.
There's nothing wrong with what Ebay is doing and AFAIC they're doing everything right. They are charging fees on your shipping and handling REVENUE. They are not charging fees directly on your postage cost EXPENSE which seems to be what you are complaining about.
OH, and you're saying sellers look naive for accepting the stated fees yet you're selling items for 99 cents and free shipping and complaining you're not making money?

Then all the seller has to do is lie about the dimensions and weight

TRS+ gets a 10% discount on the FVF, not the item price. That equates to 1% of the item price, not 5% or 10%.
