why is ebay taking a percentage out a percentage from the total amount of our sales and then taking the sales tax out, we make nothing on shipping or taxes, am I missing something or not reading it right, I am quitting ebay as they are getting more and more hungry for themselves. We are imprisoned in a system that makes more and more money from sellers, what are we to do but leave. Would love some feedback from other sellers.

In the past sellers would list an item for $10 with $60 in shipping. That was so they could bypass the fees based on the transaction alone. Policies were changed some ten years ago. This platform is a business and also wants to make money- just like you do. They began to charge fees based on the entire transaction to circumvent the sellers who tried to avoid paying their portion. It’s also not fair to those sellers who offer free shipping and eBay encourages all sellers to offer free shipping. This is still the best online platform for selling. Best of luck to you....

There are probably a thousand post about this and the answers are the same.
Just like Pay Pal, credit cards and other payment processors, their fee's are based on the total amount the buyer pays.

There will always be complaints/issues wherever you go to sell. Good Luck selling on your next platform.

Paypal did the same thing all these years...didn't you notice it back then?

You just noticed? LOL.

It is customary for payment processors to base their fees on the total amount of buyer's payment ... including shipping & tax (if applicable).
You may find a smaller company that doesn't base their fees on the tax ... but they likely will charge a higher percentage in fees.

"why is ebay taking a percentage out a percentage from the total amount of our sales and then taking the sales tax out, we make nothing on shipping or taxes, am I missing something..."
- eBay remits each state the sales tax due from all of your transactions... their percentage for this labor is a bargain to you.
- I make a little on shipping... you can, too.

" . . . am I missing something or not reading it right . . . ."
Both.
Your Seller Information shows you are a top rated seller who has been around eBay for a long time.
I know I assume a lot, but one would think you should know eBay's policies and procedures on a lot of things including how the final value fees are structured.
Simply put, the final value fee is a percentage of the total amount paid by the buyer, plus 30 cents per order.
Let's say that Betty Buyer bought a white fur stole from you. The cost of the stole was $195. Then Betty paid the postage, which I'll assume was $15. I'll also assume that the sales tax in Betty's state is 7% AND her state also taxes postage, considering it a service. Item $195 plus postage $15 = $210. Seven percent tax on $210 = $14.70. So, Betty would have paid you $224.70.
Not knowing for sure what eBay's fee percentage is on fur stoles, I'll again assume it is 12.9%. $224.70 x .129 = 28.9863, which eBay probably rounds up to $28.99. PLUS 30 cents = $29.29. That would be the final value fee based on the assumptions I spelled out.
But you asked "WHY?"
The why of eBay's fee on postage or other shipping costs is because in the past too many sellers were cheating eBay by selling a white fur stole for $14.00 plus $210.00 for postage. Too many lying and cheating sellers spoiled an honest and good deal for honest sellers.
The why of eBay's fee on sales tax is due to the marketplace facilitator laws that require eBay to calculate, collect, and remit taxes to the states. A large percentage of sellers that post here recognize that it's a good value, because we don't have to keep track of thousands of different tax rates throughout the country and we don't have to send tax money to the treasuries of something like 45 states.
I have a "why" question for you, too: Why are you selling on eBay?
I can tell you why my selling ID sells on eBay: To Make Money, to help me pay my bills, property taxes, condo special assessments, and buy milk and shoes. When the prices of milk and shoes go up, if I choose to raise the prices on items I'm selling on eBay, does that make me "more and more hungry for [myself]"?
Why is only eBay bad when they (seem to) want to make money?

They want more money otherwise they don't show ur stuff and u end up not selling or it sits around too long, so besides their fees we have to pay extra just to have our stuff seen

Simplified fees based upon the entire amount processed.
Comes out about the same as if we were still doing the eBay - - - PayPal thing.

what are we to do but leave.

I know what I'm doing. I'm sticking around to get my "payout" every week that I sell. I have adjusted to the changes here for the past 20+ years, and will continue to do so as long as I can to keep getting that "payout.

I don't do "promoted", and my items a doing just fine. YMMV

I've never used promoted listings and I sell every week....

They changed promoted listings to entire total for the same reason, some sellers were promoting themselves to the top of the listings by putting most of the transaction total into the shipping cost.
