I sold a set of Used wheels. I took multiple, large, clear images of each wheel and grouped together. The description says to powdercoat them. They are vintage, used, rare and in demand, but the price reflected in suggesting they should be refinished.
The buyer sent me this message because a shop (He says) is giving him an outrageous price to paint them:
If you work with me about this deal, then I will not put negative feedback if you’re not respond and not work with me I will put a negative feedback because if I have to spend close to $2000 to complete the whole thing
That's more than the wheels sold for and absolutely no place would charge that amount. He's trying to rip me off 😞
I just got the message today, so he hasnt left feedback YET... what do i do?
thank you for your help

And replying to someone that has threatened feedback extortion, and telling them that they don't know how to read, and then threatening to turn them in for feedback extortion seems like a more productive avenue?

@hartungcards wrote:"The seller must communicate something to the buyer."
Not really. eBay will take care of this for the seller once the feedback extortion is reported. The buyer will get the short and sweet message directly from eBay.
Exactly!! 😆 😁

Talk about a one-way ticket on the express line to your Blocked Buyers List.

1st- telling someone what you that they are in violation and informing them that it will be reported is NOT threatening- it's TELLING them what I'm doing. It's only a 'threat' if the intention is to 'report' IF they do xyz.
THAT is threatening.
2nd- informing this person that what they are doing is a violation and that the site will be informed MAY stop the buyer from going any further, including that 'threatened' negative.
3rd- everyone keeps saying 'just report' but again, that NEVER (or Very VERY seldom) does Anything as has been reported by others Many times on these forum pages.

Yeah....or you could just avoid all that and totally defuse the situation, rather than escalating it, by not replying and just reporting them. But if heightening the drama and suspense is your thing, go for it.

I had a similar instance in which a buyer wanted me to "work with her before leaving feedback." I told her that the item was as described but she could return it if she wasn't happy. I did NOT mention reporting the feedback extortion.
When she left feedback stating that I "wouldn't work with her," I reported it, referred ebay to the message and it was quickly removed.

A little harsh.
I would reward as
"Hello- the listing clearly stated they needed to be refinished. If not happy, I will send you a return label. Please let me know. Thanks.

I've 'diffused' many of bullies by doing EXACTLY what I stated and it has worked 9 out of 10 times. I build to order, therefore when someone orders, I work and I don't take that lying down and will NOT be bullied by people who think 'the buyer is always right'.
I have NO problem pointing out all the work I do on my listings with pictures and written descriptions and have asked people "did you see pictures 2 through 5? and they respond 'no' and then all of the sudden, no neg feedback and nothing is returned and return is closed.
I'll continue to do me. You all do you.

I do understand, I am not a stranger to bullying, but I'd do it in a softer tone, at least at the beginning, lol

@ten_o_nine I agree and I obviously know how to use 'professionalism' in my responses- but I will, in a 'nutshell' tell a 'buyer' that the info was in the listing etc. as well as 'you are breaking the rules so I am 'forced' to'.... etc.
Trust me- I put it ALL on them- but that is for the OP to 'filter' through-so my 'take' on how I would respond is designed to put a little 'umph' in the OPs mind of how to handle a "it's all about me, I'm a narcissist bully'

Ive reported the message to Ebay as threatening to leave bad feedback....
I had crafted a response to him, but still undecided if i should send it. I went thru something like this before with a guy that i ran into on a message forum. I told him he could just buy from me via Ebay and he did....leaves feedback here and then posts how he got money back from me after promising to remove his feedback. He even said (months later on a FB group) that he installed the part wrong and broke it trying to remove it from his car and then sold the parts after i sent him a replacement. i was pretty new to selling on ebay at the time but certainly got scammed....the negative feedback is still there. LoL!!
thanks so much for the responses!!!

This is the response i wrote but havent sent:
Hello Sir,
Please keep in mind that These MK Motosport MK1's are USED/vintage wheels are around 35 years old. I have listed them with a generous amount of clear pictures and description suggesting they be refinished by powdercoating (or just painted), either way, it will require a bit of finish work on any used wheels to make them "new" again.
I'm not sure what else could be (or couldve been) done to avoid having you leave negative feedback now, Outside of shopping for quotes (from shops in your area) to have the wheels refinished to "brand new" condition for you, before you purchased them???
fwiw, I think the price you were quoted by a shop to refinish them is beyond excessive. They do not require much work to look absolutely perfect/brand new again...you should look elsewhere.

UNDERSTSANDABLE 😀
These are exclusive wheels that were a limited production run over 30 years ago for specific BMW cars. People searching for these wheels know exactly what they are looking for. I saw a NOS set go for 5k in one of the groups...with incomplete sets going for 3k, if you can even find someone willing to sell them in this (staggered 18") size.
i thought i priced them a little low , considering what i went thru to get them.... 😞

No, it's way too wordy.
Just tell the buyer, "If you're unhappy, please return for a refund."
No more back and forth. Do NOT mention feedback.
And if he negs you, report the message threatening or implying negging you.
