feedback extortion from a buyer that exceeded my 30 day return policy

Buyer exceeded my return policy of 30 days,  so I told her my policy to accept returns is 30 days and she will not be receiving a refund.  The she threatens me, or I guess you call it extortion to pay for re-return shipping or she will leave negative feedback. She outright skipped waiting for a response and left negative feedback saying she followed my and Ebay's policy and was not issued a refund.  Now i have to wait for ebay to review it even though it clearly exceeds mine and EBay's return policy. Why is a buyer allowed to this type of stuff with returns.  Why not just pay me 20% and rent the item for a month; thats whats going on anyway!!!

Sorry to hear this, looks like you ran across a bad apple. In this case, though, eBay will probably side with you and may even remove the feedback, as you did nothing wrong. She is the one who violated policy by blackmailing you with bad feedback.

Although I am saying this tongue in cheek, because I have seen a few things in my 22 years selling on this venue.

Some of those things would be enough for a tame Easter lamb to turn into a wild YETI monster.

Best of luck

Guess again, they told me to work it out with the buyer! In other words, don't  follow your own policy and let buyers steal from you.  They won't even remove the feedback because they said and I quote "

I do apologize but the feedback does not qualify for a removal since there is an going return request filed by the buyer. At this point, you can ask the buyer to revise their feedback since you offered a return for a refund." My policy is 30 days!! It's over that, so why have the policy? So they let a buyer hijack your sales as extortion for getting a refund when it's too late to get one!! Then Ebay says i can my FVF back if I agree to refund the buyer. Really, it's either pay the buyer who still hasn't returned my item or pay Ebay? This is ridiculous!!!

There are a couple of things that are confusing.

First, let's be clear about something ... on eBay, the "30-day" return clock begins on the day that a buyer receives the item.  It is not the date of a sale.  (Look at your listing, the return policy clearly says "After receiving the item, contact seller within 30-days".  If the return request date is on or within 30-days of the sale, then it is a legitimate return request ... neither the date of sale, nor whatever date you receive the return, matters.

  • I don't know how a buyer can return the item to you without your authorization or receiving an eBay label.  Otherwise, how do they get your return address?  This indicates to me that they properly requested the return within the 30-day window.
  • Also, looking at sales for the item (via the negative feedback) I would guess that the earliest sale would have been received on or about June 3.  If you've indeed received back the item (today is July 7 ... likely received July 3 or earlier), I would almost guarantee that the buyer is correct and they properly requested the return in the 30-day window.

Second, you have an item PLUS the buyer's money?   I'm sorry, but that is not right ... even if the buyer missed the return window by a couple of days, I think you need to show a little bit of mercy here and do the return voluntarily ... it is only $10.

Regardless, it reads like you've escalated this to eBay (which is a mistake).  If my assumptions above are correct, then eBay is going to rule in favor of the buyer because the buyer is correct, and eBay will punish you with a seller defect.

They never side with the seller, yet derive all of their income from us.
