ebay wants drivers license copy. Why after being on their site for 23 years ???

Why should i have to provide anything more to these clowns ?

A. Why? Because if you want to keep selling you will. 

B. Why? Maybe because your account was dormant and they want to verify it's you on the account.

Probably related to the new govt. regs, 'know your customer' laws etc.

(The Know Your Customer (KYC) rule requires financial institutions to verify customer identities to prevent fraud and terrorism.)

Updating identification is useful to prevent hijacked accounts.

Going only by your feedback you have been away from selling for some months and you are in a high fraud category.

I received the same request. I haven't been dormant but sales have been higher the last few months. I also provided this information a couple of years ago.

You don't have to provide them anything you do not care to.  It is a choice.

You comply to the request because you want to be paid for any sales that you happen to receive on the platform. Contact your local politician on why they have approved a new law requiring online platforms such as ebay and all the others to have a copy of a seller's driver license or Govt ID to verify identity. Please keep in mind that all financial instituytions also request the copy of your driver's license or Govt ID. Plus, you can probably think of many other places that have the same requirement. For most of already on ebay managed payments, we have already received such a request. 

Ultimately, it's your choice. However if you want to recevie payments on this platform then you will need to provide them what they are requesting from you.

They would probably accept a valid passport ID if you want to refuse the drivers license.

Accept of course a hijacked account would be using another IP.
