ebay auto adjusting prices if item doesn't sell?

i saw somewhere that ebay wants to do something about automatically adjusting prices down if item doesn't sell.  have several questions re:

- is this optional and seller has to 'opt' in?

- is this part of where they are leading the 'GTC' listings?

- and most importantly ... is this what sellers want?  i myself don't really see much benefit in it.  if other sellers are like myself, they need a certain profit margin and price 'competitively' to reflect that and still make a sale.  on the other hand (ebay's side) this would make 'perfect sense' in that they make (you got it)  $$$$$.

any thoughts?

No one dictate my price. I would end the auction if did not lower the price myself at the time I choose.

i think it's more geared towards the new GTC requirements, and supposedly lowers the price at relisting time until it sells or gets so many views that it basically drops off the search results for all intents and purposes

i know i read about it recently, somewhere in one of ebays posts for the last few months .... but is it and opt it thing for sellers or is ebay steering all their GTC listings towards this end?

“Easy Pricing” is automatically offered in the app when you list.

 I decline.

I don’t like the message it sends to watchers, it implies I’m desperate, it implies if something doesn’t sell in a month I should rethink my strategy... it devalues my item.

Nope!

Aside from the fact that I’ve had too many things sell in the 4-10 month range.

The minute that becomes mandatory, ALL my listings get ended before they roll over and I list them again at the price I want to sell them at! I own them, not Ebay!

yes, but where would you go to see if it is selected for you as a seller?  (opt'd in) there is no way that i would be okay with it either.  as competitive a marketplace as ebay is, there is just no padding between prices and lowest profit margin for ebay to automatically lower prices for sellers.

i don't remember seeing when or how this would be implemented for sellers.  or if it was voluntary (to make a sale) or would be mandatory (like the free 30 returns) and buyers face sanctions for not opting in?

just in the app?  or on the pc 'create listing' page also?  and if it's automatically defaulted to reduce the price, it's just costing the sellers money.  bad bad juju on ebay's part.  i guess ebay wants u.s. based sellers to fail, so the china and other off-shore sellers listed on "eBay US" can sell more ... taking even larger chunks of money out of the U.S. economy.

i really really need a slushpuppy 'n rum about now

I'm a seller that is willing to "roll with the punches", but this would be my invitation to exit eBay.  I will not even entertain the idea of eBay reducing the price of my items.  Totally non-negotiable.

There’s no evidence they’re heading towards mandatory.

No point in hysteria.

I list using the app, so can’t say how it pops up on a PC.

I just don’t see EBay doing anything that boneheaded, and plots with the Chinese is ridiculous. Please.

re your last point ...

--https://www.ecommercebytes.com/C/blog/blog.pl?/comments/2018/11/1541125341.html/3/40 ebay ceo devin wenig addresses the china ...

  • ...he outlined several ways eBay has helped its Chinese sellers importing into the US.
  • "A majority of our China inventory is now warehoused in the United States," he explained in response to a question about tariffs. "Obviously they're not our warehouses, but we've helped our Chinese sellers with warehousing domestically, so that wouldn't be subject to those quarters."
  • Wenig referred to SpeedPAK, a new shipping service eBay rolled out to help Chinese sellers reach US consumers...
  • Wenig also appeared oblivious to the concerns of eBay's US sellers who resent what some perceive as its favoritism to Chinese sellers that harms their own exposure in the marketplace,...

this eccommercebytes article was last november.  very recent in the long-term strategies arenas.  and there are other articles, interviews and such with ebay the follow along the same lines ... just google it.  as a seller seeing all the changes ebay has rolled out in the past couple of years do you honestly believe the auto markdown pricing is not going to become mandatory the same way free 30 returns have?  ebay eventually (in the not to far off future) making it mandatory to retaining TSR and other Perks (though those perks are not really much of a perk anymore).  eventually phasing out all US-Based TSRs leaving only the very largest and china/out-us TSRs?  guess you never smell the coffee in the morning either heh ... (i love a good debate)

... if ebay put 1/20th of the effort to helping US-BASED sellers we'd all be sitting pretty

Definition of hysteria

1 : a psychoneurosis marked by emotional excitability and disturbances of the psychogenic, sensory, vasomotor, and visceral (see visceral sense 4) functions
2 : behavior exhibiting overwhelming or unmanageable fear or emotional excess political hysteria The plague had caused mass hysteria in the village.

... and btw, not 'hysteria'.  more like disgruntlement, and shock that ebay-U.S. would treat it's U.S.-Based Sellers as they are treating them

I agree EBay supports Chinese sellers, but that isn’t the same as a “plot” to overthrow US sellers. The leadership brass honestly believes the cheap junk makes the site more robust.

I believe a correction has to happen sooner or later - how much carp-buying can the customer base support?

Sooner or later, people will demand quality merchandise and a working search.... by not opening their pocket books anymore.
