ebay Dead?

I list 20 items and 2 days later, most of them have less then 5 views.

Where are the buyers? Is ebay dead? Seems to be. 

I remember the days when people could put a dirty sock for sale on ebay and someone would buy it. 

Now, ebay is like a mall built in the 80's in a run down area of town. No one shops here anymore.

Yes, it gets worse every day. I keep thinking someone will do something to rescue the sinking ship but only dead silence. Pretty scary!

The summer slump is on, happens every year..kids out of school, vacations, etc...people are outdoors,lots of other stuff to do other than cruising Ebay.

It gets worse every year because there are more sellers year after year and buyers become cheaper. Mobile technology changed everything, it turned everyone into instant sellers. They no longer have to actually be knowledgeable when they're phone is smarter than they are. Simply look something up instantly and figure things out. You can also blame the TV shows for putting dollar signs in everyone's eyes. Revealing the secrets to reselling, having ppl quit their jobs thinking they can become overnite successes by selling online. Retirees selling everything they own at the same time as everyone else and flooding the market. (I'd love to know how they made a living before the internet). All the while, buyers thinning. Need I go on!

Get used to it, because it's not going to get any better, it will get worse as shipping rates climb annually and every State has their Tax hand out.

I agree - summer has always been slow for many categories, and now other factors are impacting the site (both internal and external).

2 billion transactions

eBay sees more than 2 billion transactions per day.

This is different than the usual summer slump. This is more like a total shutdown. Ebay does seem to be all but dead, and all management can think of is to take more from those of us who are making less. It's totally unsustainable and only a matter of time before the whole thing implodes.

What do you have against retiree's? Mom and Pop's is what made eBay! eBay is destroying itself with their love for China! And wanting to be another Amazon!

Buyers are still purchasing plenty of used socks on eBay.  A search for the keywords smelly, sweaty, stinky and aroma will guide you. 

It's a niche market, but the barrier to entry for sellers is pretty low 🙂

Mom and Pop may have been what made Ebay in the beginning, but those same Mom and Pops are passing away, and those that take their place have totally different tastes than they did.

Young people still collect things, they just don't collect the same thing that their parents or grandparents did.  Those of us that sell certain collectibles  have to realize that the demand just isn't what it once was.

It also doesn't help that the internet has turned every single Joe Blow and his housecat out there into an online seller, in turn flooding the market with things that 10 or 20 years ago would have been near impossible to find locally, at least at an affordable price.  The very thing that made Ebay great - anyone can sell online - has also been (I think) part of its decline.

Times change, people change, things change - sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.

The site is outdated, they've made critical mistakes, they nickel and dime you to death, the management is awful. and scummy.  This place died years ago and now the corpse is just rotting away

I see two issues, many of your Items are just not that exciting and second, the Auction format doesn't work except for true rarities.

I sell some in the Music category, most of the items I sell only get a few views and frequently the listings that do get a lot of views never sell. This is nothing new, it's always been this way and I've been selling here for 20 years.

As far as the crazy old days, they are gone, it's not eBay it's buyers getting smarter.
