eBay terminating GTC Listing that are active

Any having eBay getting their GTC listings canceled at random . We get a "sorry your item did not sell" email and then the item qty is changed to 0 from 1 and the active listing is then sent to the unsold pile where it sits for awhile then is deleted to disappear forever. This started several months ago with a few and now we get them every day.  I have been told that eBay have several Beta tests in the background and whether this is part of the New marketing program starting in June which is clear as mud. We have many several inquires and  have been ignored or been answered with nonsense. We only us BIN and our listing are all GTC. We have had active  inventory listings changed to 0 qty and sold past items reappear with qty 1 whereas in fact the listing had been sold. We have had 2 ghost listing  and 5 active item switched to 0 this past week.  Our understanding that the new program in June will allow EBay/3rd parties to makes changes to our listing and many seller report . We just had 5 dropped listings in the past 2 days.  We are looking for similar seller events as eBay does not believe this is happening.   Thanks

PS We have 7K + listings but over 20K  available listing slots

Sorry, I can't comment on your issues.

But I just wanted to say .... 7000+ listings?  WOW!   I give you credit.

I have a hard time keeping track of 300.

Are any of these older than 6 months? ebay considers listings older than that if not sold as stale inventory. It can and does remove seller listings without notice. Its happened to me and many other sellers. Sellers have to check their inventory and weather an item is still actually even listed. All I can say in your case is at least you were notified. How long do you let active listings sit without making any changes? 1 year or 2 or more? Many sellers end them in batches and relist them using sell similar to get new ebay item numbers. What are you doing with the ones moved to the unsold folder?

If you read the GTC policy the items are suspose to renew automatically unless the lister makes a change. There seems to be a new rule concerning auctions in which you are allowed 8 renewals. Please post where it states the 6 times  policy you refer to, it would help. Seems eBay runs many Beta tests on sellers but do not tell anyone. It seems that eBay is headed towards more and more direct help to get the GMV up. For example, what if the just automatically just lower everybodies prices ?   Look at the 1st qtr results just published.   What if they want to change a word in your listing to enhance the search AI because they know something that you do not. Might be helpful and in fact get you better sales but that means you do not any  longer  run your own store. Are we headed towards, just send the item to eBay and they sell it. Apparently there are programs in place like that already and we are aprt way there with the new authenticity programs where send the item to eBay and they send it to the buyer. Hints at they do not trust the seller . Many changes are occuring this year and in the meantime GMV is falling, sellers are going away as are buyers. Just had 2 more GTC items changed to 0 QTY and listings dropped.

@amricons

They said a few years ago that they might start dropping listings that haven't sold for awhile.

How long has those listings been up?

ebay has mentioned in the past about stale listings for stuff that is not selling

if an item has not sold in 12 months maybe its time  to take it down

ebay wants listings that sell and does not want millions of unsold listings for junk clogging up the bandwith

Frankly, I don't buy the "it's an old listing"...........I've got stuff that's been up 5 yrs and the Better Half longer than that.

I would ask on Face book...........and give item #'s..........  just sounds like a glitch/problem with the inventory control system......changing from 0 to 1, etc.............

Could also be IS requireds not filled in.

What difference does that make ?  GTC means good until canceled. We have and anchor store which currently gives us over 25K listing per month. Will eBay give us money back for unused listings ? There many reasons for why a seller may or may not use the listing. The point is, under current policy, the GTC BIN listing can only be changed by the listing seller. There are reports by sellers that the qty or prices have been changed. What are managed accounts ? Why does eBay run Beta tests and and not tell anybody ?  Just a few of the questions about the site. Like why did they just wipe out all legacy accounts ? What is a legacy account ? Etc.

We have paid for a certain number of listing every month. What is done with them is on the lister not eBay nor any other 3rd party  unless given permission by the lister. It is also a POV issue, what is stale to you, maybe not be to another. Show me where the "stale policy " is post by eBay.   What does stale mean. Users pay for each listing each month.   Again, we have paid for over 25000 listing per month. We can buy more if we wish, we currently use a bit over 7000. We could use more but decided to not mainly because of the incohert policies changes  eBay keeps making. For example, the new lisitng form which takes longer to use and an email 1 day about card over $2000 one day and listings changed the very next day.. The system (GTC) was working fine until this year . Co-incedently, GMV has been in a falling trend for about a year. Is eBay trying to stop the decline. One way is to take over seller listings. If you have been on the site for 25 years you can see trends. If you joined as a seller recently you think this chaos is normal.   Do yourself a favor and review the recent and past 3 Wall Street reports. Look at the 1st qtr report and then the CEO report. The man is delusional.   GMV is way down and even revenue is way down.  Stock is down oiver 5%. How do you think the stockholders are reacting ?  Do you think eBay will not lower prices and make other changes as  a tactic to get sales ? Had hints about that in the last 3 conversations with eBay and they will not nor will not answer simple questions that are simple yes or no questions.

You are correct, we had an item sell the other day that had been up since 2015 etc.  The general problem in our opinion maybe 2 fold or more. The site is a giant inner-connected data base. These types of platforms are famous for have a broken link in one place and have issues appear somewhere else in the network. For the older sellers, several years ago, eBay tried to make a change to the network and lost a bunch of data files. The files were lost forever. They lost over 4000 of our pics.    We are still affected today as they were random file losses.   As they use the seller base as test subjects may the beta test experiments cause unforseen events due to the network links which cause random events ?  Perhaps we are looking at the uncertainity principal from physics as  it would look in the eBay network system ?

Several years ago, Ebay said that they *may* end listings that are over a year old & shortly after, they started doing it.  I'm not a policy-hound, so no, I won't be able to point you to the exact verbiage.  But this isn't a beta test, it's several years old.  Like several others have mentioned, I remember when they put it into effect & there was much discussion over what a stale listing was.  What I recall is that that they defined it as a over a year old, with no changes.   Someone who is a policy-hound may be along to point you to it.

I personally have many listings that are over a year old, but I end & restart them periodically, so they don't get "stale", so I haven't had it happen to me.

Unless Ebay decides to end the listing if they've been up for awhile.

Probably not.

There are reports by sellers that the qty or prices have been changed.

I've never had the quantity or price changed, but I have had other stuff changed in a listing.

Why does eBay run Beta tests and and not tell anybody ?

It's their site and they can.

Like why did they just wipe out all legacy accounts ?

Don't know.

What is a legacy account ? Etc.

Don't know.

A few years ago, I had a few listings that were ended because they had been up a year or so and didn't sell.

It was no big deal, just relisted them.

This how GTC should work. Just sold this item which has been listed since 2013. The item has been listed for over 9 years. It is item # 146926689902. We have an anchor store and been on eBay for over 20 years.   Recently we have been getting early item terminations where eBay changes the item available from 1 to 0 and  they ended the GTC listing and move the item from active to unsold. Has anyone else have this happen to their listings ?  Other random changes like price changes, qty's etc have been reported.   Indications seem to point to eBay moving to taking over seller listing. Take a read of the Marketing services announcement  and  account managers .

I disagree, everything eventually sells. Search my last sold item. I just sold some contraction boards tonight that have been listed for well over 6 years. Again, my experience is everything will eventually sell when the right person comes along or when your item is visible enough. just my take.

If eBay is going to randomly end listings that they think are old, then an email letting the seller know should be the rule. Like there was in the past. I too from time to time find listings have magically poofed with no record other than my original email message which i put in a folder. At times you can retrieve. Other times you can't. But I have never had them show up in ended listings.
