eBay shouldn't let the buyer leave a negative feedback without contacting the seller

eBay shouldn't let the buyer leave a negative feedback without contacting the seller at least one time. How should a seller know if a buyer is unhappy and fix the problem or get the item retuned and refund the buyer? eBay should set a filter that a buyer before leaving a negative or neutral feedback at least contact the seller for the issue and if no reply or no issue fixed by the seller then let the buyer leave a feedback. A buyer just left a N. feedback without contacting us and complaining the price, ok if the price is high so why did you buy it or if you receive it and think it doesn't worth simply return it, not keeping the item and claiming that the price is high. This particular buyer has left 17 Negative feedback out of 32 to different sellers which is not normal.

You can't please all the people all the time. Expecting your feedback to be perfect when there are critical people in the world is expecting too much. However you CAN report the buyer for leaving an excessive percentage of negatives and see if Ebay will agree the buyer is unreasonable.

Think about it though. As a buyer I have sent a kindly worded email to a seller and been accused of being a scammer. What about buyers who actually have been scammed? Should they be REQUIRED to contact their scammers again? They've already given them a chance. So I respectfully disagree.

Many buyers do not realize they have other recourse. A wise seller can reach out to the buyer if it isn't too late. Offer to accept a return and then request a feedback revision.

You can report that buyer for feedback abuse, I believe.

They will never make it mandatory for the buyer to contact the seller.  I understand that you would have made it right.  Some sellers abuse the buyer, and argue, and harsass them, so they just want to leave feedback and move on to avoid the hassle.

The best defense against this situation is to to not have a problem in the first place.

As another poster said, pack well, described accurately, clear pictures, do all you can to avoid problems, and most likely you will not have any.

There is no requirement to contact before leaving feedback but it would be the  responsible thing to do.  Especially if the buyer wants the seller to fix the problem.  Leaving a neg first is certainly not going to motivate the seller to help.  That said, this is an old trick.  Buyer leaves a neg with no prior contact...seller asks why...buyer offers to revise if they could get a partial refund.

Particularly when the complaint in the OP's neg is about price.

Buyer expressed their opinion, "Does not look like a $400.00 dollar ring, scratches and scuffs and stones small", why should they be reported for this?

"Those who enter the arena unarmed or unprepared are quickly dispatched."

I'm always amazed when the seller has clear pictures, one of which shows perspective by having on a hand, with a good description, stating the size and clarity of the stones and that it has scuffs.  The buyer is upset when they received exactly what they purchased.

Can't please everyone.

I totally get your point. I have a lady that just leaft a neutral saying "Item is **bleep**", never contacted me at all. I always refund people who are not happy with their purchases, so I went ahead and did that, I told her I was sorry she wasnt happy with her purchase, that I had provided her with 100% refund as soon as I saw the feedback and next time to contact me if she has any issues so we can promptly resolve them for her. Got a hostile email back stating that I was attempting to bribe. I replied very nicely again, stating that No, she had every right to write her opinion, but that communication  in ebay is important for everybody to have a succesful expreience. Never once had a complaint of quality in this particular item, if she got one that was a dud I would have liked to investigate the issue so it does not happen again. I was beyond accomodating, and this lady was absolutely ridiculous. Looked at her feedback, everytime she buys jewelry she does not like it, even accused a seller of selling her a fake purse without any proof.

So true! I add exact measurements, always have a pic with someone wearing the earrings for perspective in terms of the size... it does not fail someone says "oh I did not know it was that long" what?

Just so you know you need to go back a reread the feedback. Your buyer complained of scratches on the piece resulting in a lower value. They did not complain about the price they paid for an excellent condition piece.

@justafemster

The description said it was excellent and never mentioned scratches and scuffs. True the buyer should have looked a little better at the pictures and maybe asked questions but what you are saying did not happen in this case.

How would this help? The buyer would just send a non-sensical message or something like "Had to contact you first so here is your contact. going to leave a neg now."

You are correct. I read "beautiful" and stopped there thinking "beautiful" meant "excellent" without clicking see more of the description button. My bad. Maybe the buyer did the same ? I suppose the OP needs to eliminate the word "beautiful" since the item has scratches.

There's the problem, not reading and the definition of beautiful (adj physically attractive).  Personally, I would never think excellent with the term beautiful (but that's just me, arguing synonyms, not trying to argue with you, GRINS)

All my jewelry has scratches (some have dents and missing stones, teething puppy) and I still find them beautiful, but none of them are in excellent shape.

Ebay will never require a buyer to do that.  We got a neutral yesterday says slow shipping?

Bought 12/7 shipped 12/7

Delivered 12/14

Item went from Atlanta to Ohio then back to Atlanta then to buyers address in Ohio.

USPS mistake but we take the blame and are blamed by the buyer.

Funny thing is the buyer who left feedback prior to this one says FAST SHIPPING and the feedback left after this buyers neutral also says FAST SHIPPING. As you look down all our feedback you see many times positive fast shipping.

So we just leave a comment maybe ask them to revise it and ALWAYS put them on our BBL list. Then move on,

Thats all you can do is BBL list.
