eBay isnt as bad as sellers here claim

I keep reading how sales are non-existence, no view, no messages, no questions - no nothing, I think more has to do with the items sellers are selling, then what eBay is or isnt doing.  If you dont believe me try this.. go to Best Buy and purchase a BRAND NEW laptop for $400 and list it on ebay for $200 free ship & 30 day return. Then sit back and watch all the views - questions - comments you get and how fast it sells. Now your saying "why would I do that, im losing money", the answer is simple... other sellers are purchasing products that are in high demand for a low enough price that they can sell cheap and still make a profit.  Why arent you?

Re: eBay isnt as bad as sellers here claim

I just searched for floating memory locket - most of the results are for the charms or lockets to create a memory charm/locket. There are a couple of very high priced complete lockets on the first page that are promoted - and I mean high - $50.

Not sure what category you are using - but I looked at both the bracelet and necklace/ pendant category and they both show the same items.

Ebay should probably, if they don't already, have a separate category for the supplies to make these and leave those that are made in the jewelry categories I mentioned. That's why you aren't having sales - you aren't being seen. There are too many items that are included in the search that shouldn't be.

I don't think that is a true test.  Of course, a high priced item listed for half price will generate interest.

But most people aren't going to list a new high priced item for half price.  That serves no purpose and is self defeating~just to see a flurry of interest and a sale that is a loss.

It's up to every seller to decide what an acceptable level of profit is; to suggest otherwise is taking away an individual's rights.  Yes, buyers want bargains, but they have to be within reason.  Also, laptops are a high scam category.

Re: eBay isnt as bad as sellers here claim

Most sellers dont have access to liquidations and remainders .

Ebay provides us with a venue to sell, but it cant force anyone to buy from us.

But competition is really really tough on many Ebay categories,I bought a wireless headset for 169 ,refurbished ,while Bestbuy which also sell on EBay ask for 499.

The refurbished one comes with all the trimmings and look like never   open ,and it works.free shipping and free return, the seller has sold hundreds of them.

Now if only we small sellers know where to get hold of these headsets, you figure 169 after free shipping, ebay and paypal fees, how much did they really pay for them?

And he has hundreds of them?

Except vendors at a Farmer's Market have their own return policy not dictated by the mysterious Farmer's Market Vendor Assignment God.

I don't think eBay is doing nearly as much to affect sales as people are giving them credit for. I think blackouts, hidden listings, throttling and other similar theories are generally myths.

But are there definitely things that eBay is doing that are adversely affecting sellers. For isntace, the whole idea of category switching during searches is idiotic.

But I also think that there are many sellers who are struggling to get sales they used to get, and trying to pin it down to a single reason is probably futile. IMHO there are probably a whole bunch of factors - supply, demand, pricing, competition, taste, selling status, shipping costs, listing appeal, keywords, item specifics, luck, etc. - that all play a part.

Re: eBay isnt as bad as sellers here claim

Most threads on no sales can be condensed down to

"Why isnt anybody buying my overpriced/broken/badly or mis described stuff that even the thrift store didnt want that there is no market for? Dont they know I have bills to pay/want to go to Aruba/get my kid braces/need a new car? This is all Ebay's fault because they wont put some kind of voodoo magic on my listings so my unwanted stuff will suddenly be hot and trendy and all the buyers will throw money at me!"
