eBay isnt as bad as sellers here claim

I keep reading how sales are non-existence, no view, no messages, no questions - no nothing, I think more has to do with the items sellers are selling, then what eBay is or isnt doing.  If you dont believe me try this.. go to Best Buy and purchase a BRAND NEW laptop for $400 and list it on ebay for $200 free ship & 30 day return. Then sit back and watch all the views - questions - comments you get and how fast it sells. Now your saying "why would I do that, im losing money", the answer is simple... other sellers are purchasing products that are in high demand for a low enough price that they can sell cheap and still make a profit.  Why arent you?

When you're selling expensive items that don't get returned it is nice and fast money. If you have a bunch of little sales that eBay fails to help you sell effectively, this is when you'll see why eBay sets the system up for Buyers.

What are you talking about? It's not ebays job to help you sell effectively. That's your own responsibility.

Ebay's "job" is to make maximum profits and pad their bottom line as much as possible, which they do by taking the path of least resistence; which is making things as easy and pain free as possible for their true customer: the buyer.

Exactly.  Ebay is no different then when you open a store, or  get a table at a flea market.  It is a venue.  Then it is up to each individual seller to make it work.

Minor diff between the flea market and ebay...you sell an item at the flea market and never go back, so you never see the buyer again.
You sell an item on ebay...well...no need to paint the whole picture.

ebay is berry berry good.... Bidness advice from someone paying $400.00 that could be done for $180.00.... How ebay is that?

Your example makes no sense, since of course buyers will flock to loss leader items no matter where they're sold. People are here to make a profit, not to give their items away.

So, yes, sales are very weak on items that are priced to make a profit. Exactly who are these sellers purchasing brand new computers and selling them for half the price of the big box stores? You need to back up your statement with proof.

Re: eBay isnt as bad as sellers here claim

I sell industrial equipment for the most part, recently I got a older Gopro 2 and I listed it like any other listing I have. All are fixed price GTC, most do not  have best offers. The gopro had 85 hits in 1 day and sold the next day. Every other item I listed that day had the standard 1-2 maybe 3 hits. no sales. Its all about buying the right items cheap enough to sell at a price that entices buyers and still make a profit.

ALL items regardless of price have the potential to get returned and when did it become eBay job to help you sell effectively?

I think both sellers and buyers are critical to the success of Ebay. I also believe they are both customers of Ebay. I also believe that Ebay creates policy based on what makes the most money for them and follows the law, regardless of what buyers and sellers think is fair.

I agree with that 100%.

However, I don't think ebay sees it that way. To them, bringing in the buyers who spend the majority of the money which, in turn, makes ebay more money, are clearly more important to them than the sellers.

Following the law tho? Hmm... I suppose that could be debated in some cases... LOL

I use to think that too, but then get a flurry of sales on items I thought were junk.

It all depends on who is looking when.

Interesting that a whole thread can be just one big insult.

eBay isnt as bad as sellers here claim op - unquote

I can't speak for all the other sellers and the reasons why their sales have tanked  . I  can only speak for myself,,  so here are my facts .  I sell unique items that I design myself  and sales on these items have always been very  good . In the last few weeks I have added more listings on a daily basis  up to ten  a day . I now have more than I've ever had . I've also lowered my prices , adjusted the titles  and offered discounts on purchases of two or more items. However nothing is working . Only one watcher has popped up in two weeks . During this time of year my mothers day and teacher locket necklaces  always sold like hotcakes ,, year after year,,   except this one . Right now I doubt I could sell a life raft to a drowning man. This same story is being told by a growing number of sellers . Something has gone wrong  I assure you . Tulips

If I were looking for handmade jewelry I'd go to Etsy. There's far more competition for your type of product than there used to be. I know from my circle of aquaintances that Etsy created the ability to take their hobbies and make them into businesses. I can't tell you how many now have their own Etsy shop for jewelry, knitwear, signs, etc.

OP proposed that as a challenge and a test.  Buy a computer, list it at half price, and watch the interest.
