eBay is a complete joke

Same old discussions about low sales for months now. Been here since 1998 full time seller since 2007 with multiple sellers account. Average $800-2k per day for 10+ years and since June sales have tanked across all the stores 80%. Yesterday was a record low with a $3.50 sale. Website sales are growing, Amazon sales are growing but eBay? It's just a stupid circus at this point. Our sales tanked after we signed up for the payment system, sales went to zero instantly. After months of fighting with them they finally let us get out of it but in the process they broke all our stores, customers couldn't check out, glitch after glitch dashboard completely messed up, not even getting sales emails nothing works. This site is completely worthless and a waste of time. All to deal with the worse scammers buyers while eBay takes 10-12% profit and what do we get at the end of it? $3 sale.
It's created so much stress for us running multiple stores that are not making any money we have finally come to the decision after 22 years that it's time to close all our eBay accounts and move on. Will never buy or sell anything on eBay, it's been too painful and I'm sick and tired or making their executives money and pay for their jet-set lifestyle. They have the Chinese sellers for that. Thanks for nothing eBay hope to see you go down in flame in the near future.  Unlike eBay, at least the Titanic went down with the lights on.

Re: eBay is a complete joke

The decline really began for us in 2010. We were doing $40 to 50k / year. Now down to $17K. TRS, ship next business day every day. Same volume of merch.
I'm looking into other selling apps. This place is the fast track to nowhere and we need to face that sucky reality and act accordingly, this time for sure.

Re: eBay is a complete joke

Your store needs to be more diversified so when one area/niche is not moving , something else in another category can help pick up the slack. For MOST not all sellers, the days of selling in one area/category and making a living are fading away. For the most part, we stay away from the over saturated categories and manage to hold our own, but with MUCH more effort required than in the past.

.... and there goes another buyer....

i have said it before... for as long as ebay does not realize that their sellers cycle a lot of their revenue back into the system, and they start treating us accordingly, things will just get worse;-(

sorry to see you leave @stockjedi

Re: eBay is a complete joke

I closed our premium store and rented a booth at a new antique Mall - I was paying $79 for store and my booth rental is $94. eBay is broken and I mentally cannot handle all the stress with EBAY that I don't have elsewhere.

Re: eBay is a complete joke

I have decided today is the last day I market my items listed on ebay

it is a waste of time when you market your items on social media or elsewhere and anyone clicks on the link they first see others items that may be lower priced then yours

All the other sites I sale items on do not do that, so I will be focusing on marketing my items on other sites

The way I see it is I am helping Ebay make a sale and not myself

Nothing personal but I’m here listing items on ebay to help myself

Spending my time marketing those items from eBay and only making a sale for Ebay or some lazy seller or any other seller is not what I want my effort to be about

I market my items several times a day which does bring in a lot of traffic according to the reports I get

Thats going tobe that much less traffic Ebay gets, I really am starting to wonder why I bother with Ebay at all as far as sales

You sellers that want to compete in the race to the bottom as far as price are putting holes in your own ship

Everything around us is getting more expensive while many sellers are only bottom lining themselves

I recommend all sellers to bring thier item prices to reality

we all spend money on gas, finding items, Packaging, time listing, marketing and getting these items shipped. Is your time worth nothing? Do you really only want to break even?

Re: eBay is a complete joke

I’m Also slowly changing my pins to my other sites listings

Again I see no sense in driving traffic to my listings on eBay if they are going to see others listings on that page before they see mine

I refuse to help others sell their items by marketing mine

I was bringing quite a bit of traffic to my listings and Ebay, but now that same traffic will be going elsewhere

If ebay wants me to start marketing my listings on eBay again they must remove others listings from my listings pages

Re: eBay is a complete joke

The most disturbing thing here is why Ebay is so silent on this matter. Other than 1 email from Jordan stating things were going to change there has been absolutely NO communication. Ebay- Where are you ???

Re: eBay is a complete joke

I clicked on this post due to the title, and wanted to see what problems others were experiencing.  I have noticed a sharp decline in sales on ebay over the past two years.  However, other channels have experienced double digit growth.  I often have the same products listed on multiple channels.  I get questions from the same buyer on multiple channels.  Up until recently, they would often buy from ebay, mainly I think because of our "forced" adoption of the free returns option.  We have now discontinued the free returns as the same jerky buyers were still selecting the trained response of "defective" in order to get a free return label, even though we offered free returns, the reason shouldn't matter.   So, now all sites being equal, we will see what affect that change has.  I've not seen any change since adopting managed payments mid year.  I think more buyers are moving away from Paypal anyway.  Many have credit cards with better rewards.   Back to the main point, buyers are limited.  They are keyboard savvy and are typing in what they want in google and purchasing that way.   I don't think they are coming to ebay platform to search for new stuff, but maybe used stuff.   Ebay's business model has changed in order to compete with Amazon, often forgetting the auctions and sellers that got them to where they were a few years ago.  Ebay also has a problem with listing suppression.  I know I have the best price in the nation, hands down on an item and yet, my listing is not even on the first page.  Many issues with ebay's system and nothing lasts forever.

Re: eBay is a complete joke

geez you guys are on a whole nother level. I am a newb that just wants to sell items around the house. I get fees that were over looked last invoice,  CS says invoice glitch and using fedex was the issue. Information you need to figure all these cost  are on multiple pages. I go to print last months invoice and ebay locks up, site haults. **bleep** that seems like it should be so simple , looks like its purposely misplaced. Little fish here but it doesnt look so great from my point of view also.

I am sure that the stats that Ebay uses for their decision making are just as accurate as the stats we as Sellers also get, so how can they possibly make any knowledgeable decisions about how losing a Seller is costing them a good buyer also?  They still seem to think that their number of buyers increasing is due to their great treatment of their buyers instead of realizing the large majority of those new accounts are just scammers creating another new account to try and rip off another seller.  Sure it may be an active buying account, but it sure would be interesting for Ebay to disclose how many of those are current users just creating another account as their other account had been reported as a buyer violating Ebay policies or scamming sellers and having it reported.

Re: eBay is a complete joke

The number of scammers has gotten worse than the previous peak not too long after I started selling on the site back in 2006. Honestly most sellers probably make better buyers than the people that buy only.

I agree 100%!  I’ve been selling here for 19 years and have seen it go from a fun and profitable venue to buy/sell quality collectible, unique items to an authoritarian washed-up has been filled with cheap ChiCom garbage.  I’ve finally decided to hang it up and quit the platform all together.  I put up with all the micromanaging and incremental takeover of the sellers businesses’ for years, but Managed Payments was the final straw for me.  I’ve cancelled all of my listings and have asked eBay to delete my account as soon as possible.  I have no intentions of returning either as a seller or buyer.

To those of you who have or are considering leaving, I wish you the best in whatever you pursue.  To those trying to stay afloat on the sinking ship that has become eBay, good luck to you and I highly recommend exploring other options before it’s too late.

Take care...

Re: eBay is a complete joke

Best of luck to you.  Might be joining you in 2020.  6 days into this week - 3 days with goose egg & 2 days with 1 sale.  Hope I can find avenues that offer MORE!  This is beyond ridiculous.  Also, enough of the 10% gift to them for S/H!   Cheers!
