Obviously, the programmer who created the NEW messaging site IS NOT a seller on eBay nor received seller input. This page needs improvement OR we should have the option to opt-out and return to the classic message page. This is very frustrating and the page is not user-friendly. When I send messages, there are times when I need to review what I wrote to the buyer/potential buyer before responding again.
With the new messaging format, when you click "sent" to pull up the message if you typed several paragraphs, this mess will only show you a small portion of the message you sent. You cannot scroll to view the entire message. I sell to more than one person, so how can I remember what was written? I have sent messages to "What do you think?". Am I the only seller not happy with "new messaging"? Is anyone at eBay paying attention?

Click your curser in the gray box where it says where it says "send message".
Type your message.
When you're finished, click on the blue button that says "send message".

Wouldn’t that first encounter with “send message” be clearer if it said “compose message”?

You need to click directly on the "Send Message" line at the very bottom of the screen, not in any of the whitespace above it. Despite the (wrong) wording, that location is where you write the message, and eventually send it by clicking on the little paper-airplane icon to the right of it. (Yes, it's an incredibly bad design; I am just explaining it, not defending it.)

... it's exactly like text messaging and every other messaging app?

I just first encountered their new messaging system and it stinks. When I tried to contact a seller with a question all I get is "Looks like something went wrong. Please try again later." Where does Ebay get it's programmers? Why do companies feel like they need to fix something that wasn't broken? If I can't ask a seller a question I am not going to buy their product.

I dunno about "exactly," but yes, it does appear to be an attempt to simulate a mobile texting app on a desktop web page. God knows why. (Their next revision will be to pop up a little keyboard on the screen, so you'll have to use your desktop cursor to click the letters one at a time. 😁)

Clearly, some one told the programmer to make the Ebay messaging look like a text message exchange, which the programmer did.
I rate the new messaging experience as 1 star every time I use it.
I am certainly someone thinks I am a cranky old man who is opposed to anything which 21st century people value which is a product of smartphone technology.
They are probably correct. The only piece of late 20th century technology which is worse than the smartphone is Facebook.

Messages come through A LOT faster now.
Instead of similar to e-mail. It's now more like texting. (or so it seems).
My biggest issue is that I've sent messages to the wrong user..twice so far.
Not sure how, not paying attention I assume.
But, I've NEVER done that before with the old messaging system
And it doesn't file my replies in the Sent folder. Makes going back to a message a bit more work
