eBay advertising

Some good news for us who don't like the GTC.

In the past week, I have heard eBay advertising on the local radio.

Maybe this is a start for the upcoming Holiday Season to help us all.

take care

Re: eBay advertising

There is one company that actually states in their commercial that they're 'just like Ebay', though I can't remember what the name is off-hand..lol. But they drive me nuts; wayyy overkill. And you have to bid fast, fast, fast, with no time to check 'small print'. No thanks, I would much rather shop Ebay. But yes, Ebay does need HELP on the advertising front.

Re: eBay advertising

It's a problem when most of my friends (in their 20s-40s) think of eBay as a place filled with "grandma's junk." yuzuha

E bay has everything for everybody  of every age group . There's no problem except your friends may be misinformed  . This is why they need to bump up advertising ,, not cut back on it.  Tulips

Re: eBay advertising

@mam98031

Thanks.  That's what I thought I remembered seeing.

Of course, to complicate things, one reason advertisers want younger customers is that they hope the customer will like their product or service well enough to form a brand loyalty.

When DD went to university, in 1995, all the freshmen were given a Bank of Nova Scotia credit card, with a $500 limit.

York University has about 53,000 students.

The bank also arranged to be the bank that student loans would be issued through by default.

Sounds like a great way to cheaply get a lifelong client, eh? Good plan.

Except no one had explained to the BNS branch staff just off campus how that plan was supposed to work and the staff and manager were very hostile to students, slowing down loan payouts and sending out demands for payment if the student was not making monthly payments larger than the minimum.

I doubt any student became a BNS client after graduation.

Whether eBay needs the younger demographic is moot, but they keep getting born and we keep dying off.

Thanks, I had fun watching these!  Even the victoriously campaign ads were fun. This is the way eBay used to be ..... fun.

The actors and fun themes made the commercials work for me.  I've never posted this before, but I've worked as an actor in TV/Movies from ~ 2011 to last year.  This year I've been too busy planning a move to Hawaii.

Greg - LOL! I "knew" I've seen you somewhere before! Woman Wink

About that move - I hope you have been there, spent time there before (not just a day or two) and know what you are getting into. I lived there for just over 5 years between Kailua and Kaneohe - courtesy of the US Marines. Glad I was blessed enough to go. And although it was pretty (no doubt in my mind it's the prettiest place on Earth - seeing the unusual flame and fan trees, wearing beautiful plumeria leis and muumuu's...  - and so it had it's good moments.  But I have no intention of returning, as just as many not so good memories left with me, too. My husband wants to go, but it'd be my luck that "goddess Madam Pele" of Hawaiian legend would become angry...  sunglasses Maybe one day I'll go for a visit just for him as everyone deserves to experience the glory of the land for themselves. I hope you will enjoy living there.

I worked part time in both Pearl Mall (the Tram was so cool!) and Ala Moana Mall, attended classes at UH@Manoa, even learned some of the language, went to a luau or 2 and did a few other touristy things. Maybe it was just being a WM, I don't know;  I just felt out of place somehow ... but the stories I could tell...

Anyway, I wish you well.  Two important pieces of advice to take with you if you don't already know, be sure to learn the difference in Kane and Wahine... (I wish I'd known before I got off the plane...) 🙂 And don't ignore the sunscreen as being that close to the equator can be devastating to your skin and health (I spent 20 minutes outside hanging laundry the first week I was there and ended up in the hospital with sun poisoning before nighfall) so it's serious.

Aloha.

Yes, people tend to think that it is mostly an older crowd that shops on Ebay and that simply isn't true.  That certainly doesn't mean that Ebay doesn't need to do more to bring in younger people, because that will be something that needs to be done constantly.

But you are right.  It is a circle that will never end.

That was a cute commercial - and I like this Australian one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOS74rbpFEM&list=PL97EFB789DD08F23E&index=4

If we notice tho - these were done during Meg's reign here at Ebay. There was less competition - but tht didn't stop Meg from making sure - EVERYONE knew the name EBAY.

I actually remember this one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76sghL7B_0A&list=PL97EFB789DD08F23E&index=3

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWHGvwPMN_s&list=PL97EFB789DD08F23E&index=7

These commercials are a powerful representation of Ebay - they don't concentrate on only the new. As noted before - retro is in style as far as furnishings and decorations. Often the younger crowd may buy the IKEA throwaway furniture - but their decorating accents are vintage. Also - taking older objects - like they do on Flea Market Flip and turning them into something completely different is popular. People can find all the older things right here on Ebay. A commercial showing those transformations and what they looked like before and after would be great. Pinterest is filled with boards of these types of flips.

Re: eBay advertising

I think that any real 'imagination' left with Meg.  More and more, it appears that everything must go through 'committee', or a team must agree.  Sometimes it almost seems like the people after Meg didn't or don't want all that much attention brought to ebay -'just pay your money and settle for what we are doing, the way we are doing it and what you get out of it'.

(personal opinion - your mileage may vary)

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

This looks like a really bad Target commercial. They've had some great ads in the past - but you can see that Devon indeed cut their budget.

OMG. That is horrible. As someone who has spent a lifetime in advertising and marketing that just made me cringe.

My favorite ebay commercial will always be the little boy who lost his boat and finds it years later on eBay. I don't believe there is a child alive today as an adult that hasn't lost a favorite toy and would love to find it again ... just because.

Re: eBay advertising

Hey ! Maybe e bay should hire the genius who thinks up all those incredibly stupid Sonic commercials ? Talk about low budget advertising . lol .. Tulip

Oh, Tulips, you have pierced my heart !  Are you talking about the Two Guys ad campaign?  It's highly successful (as in, producing positive results for Sonic) and the actors are very, very well paid.

Ah, the actors.   Pete Grosz (dark haired one) is a good friend of my daughter.  He was Seth Meyers' roommate and they were all in undergrad film school together and spent a lot of time together.  Pete wrote for Stephen Colbert for years, had a recurring role in Veep, wrote for Seth for a while, and has done many other things.

There is a good bit of ad libbing in those ads, as both come from prestigious improv backgrounds.

I know, love 'em or hate 'em and maybe I'm biased but I think the commercials are very well done and accomplish the goal of any ad campaign which is keep the brand name out there.
