eBay Video won't accept .MOV despite eBay website saying they do and videos to be reviewed? CMON.

Wanted to try the new upload video option that eBay rolled out this year. Couple issues I ran into and if eBay could address them this feature will be way better.

Firstly, this official eBay page (https://export.ebay.com/en/listings/how-optimize-your-listings/adding-a-video-to-your-listing/) needs to be edited, it says that eBay accepts .MOV files but they don't, an Invalid File error occurs when uploading .MOV, you need to convert .MOV to .MP4. This adds an unnecessary and annoying step and will probably prevent sellers from using this feature more. iPhones default video output to .mov, unsure what android phones do but that's a large chunk of the market that will have to take multiple steps to use this feature. eBay should allow .MOVs and at the very least if they won't, they shouldn't advertise that they do.

Second issue, I got my video uploaded but it's "Under Review". I'm reading online that Review process can take a long long time. Seems ridiculous that eBay has to review every single video uploaded. I get that they are trying to ensure nothing nasty gets uploaded, but that same logic can apply to pictures and pictures don't need to be reviewed on a case by case basis. The video uploaded to my listing is informational, the listing is up and available for purchase, if it gets purchased before the video is viewed it could lead to buyer confusion and issues. Please get rid of this illogical review process, it makes no sense and will stifle adoption of the new feature.

Hi, The link you provided is to eBay Export. Those are the help pages for international sellers who reside in other countries but who list on the dot com site here in the US. So some of that info may not apply to eBay’s domestic sellers here.

@samaritanseller

I don't use MOV, so can't really comment on that.

While it is true that long review times were common when this first rolled out, my last few videos have all been approved within an hour or less. I strongly doubt ebay will get rid of the review process itself, but they have definitely improved the speed of the process (I'm sure there are probably some exceptions, but for the most part, the review is going much faster ( when this first rolled out, my very first video took ten days to be approved)

ebay has said they are working on providing a definite reason for any rejections , rather than just a link to an outdated help page. Not sure if they've released that change or not, as I haven't had any rejections lately.

@samaritanseller  Oh, I meant to add, one workaround some sellers have used is to create the listing in draft form, and wait until the video has been approved before actually going live with the listing.

@samaritanseller

There have been a lot of complaints concerning the video feature.   From what I've seen most are having difficulties with it.  Also some of the videos are taking a long time to review if at all.  My guess is that it's back logged or the Ebay programmers have just decided not to put much more effort into this feature.  A few people here were successful with it, but if you're running an auction style listing, it may not even be reviewed by the time your auction ends.  So what's the point?  Why even have the feature if it doesn't work right?

Have a great day.

Never had one issue loading a video on Etsy.  They've been doing it a long time. I make a short video, upload it and viola! it's up and live in seconds. It makes me wonder why ebay has to make it so difficult?

@greatstuff80

I know.  Very easy when I had a shop there.

It also says this here

  • The video should be .mp4 or .mov with a 150MB limit, or about one minute long”

I haven't had any issues uploading videos at all this year as an apple user, it wasn't until December 2022 that all my uploads fail - nothing has changed on my end. I use a dedicated device to take the videos and they are always edited to less than a minute.

Something witty is supposed to occupy this space...

I figured out a work around. On your iPhone open the google app.. open ebay under google (not the app!) and you can upload the video directly from phone (the .mov) and the file issue you are describing no longer happens.

It appears that this is the only way to do it so far.
