@ten_o_nine

FYI For future reference….Accepting a best answer shouldn’t be on your own post. It should be given to the responder who gave you the best solution to your issue.
Selecting your own post just confuses others seeking the same answers to the question you asked.

Re: eBay Said

i have tried following all of these things too. with little results. i see others who sell the same items i do and many dont follow these suggestions but sell alot more than i do.

my conclusion is the people at ebay that make these suggestions have never sold at retail and dont have a clue how to do it.

Re: eBay Said

I REALLY hate to say this...

Scanning through the first page of items that came up in your store... fragile stuff... and dinnerware is so... out of date. Expensive to ship and I see so much of that stuff at thrifts stores every day. Watches, too... people want smart watches.

Even if the dinnerware sells, you will probably lose money due to breakage in shipping.

No amount of Ebay suggestions will help!

Re: eBay Said

I love your listings and items. There is a strong market for them.  But, may I add a couple more ideas to your list?

Keep your listings NEW by ending the listings each month and sell similar. You may already be doing this, but, I'm mentioning it because it works.

MOST IMPORTANT:  Let buyers make offers. You may not want to, but it's where the sales come from on your type of merchandise.  It does 2 things. It increases activity on your account and somehow Ebay recognizes it and the listings are featured more.  Also, it creates sales. Pure and simple. Ebay buyers LOVE to make offers. It is what Ebay is all about, buyers looking for a 'deal'.  Even if you list the items higher $ just so you can.  I do. Most of my sales come from offers and counteoffers.  Try it a while.

Re: eBay Said

I'm certainly not an expert but since you sell some items that are similar to mine, I wanted to reply.

I've started to laser focus on the demand for an item, while sourcing. Even if the price is reasonable, and I think that I can make my acceptable mark-up, when it sells, I'm paying even more attention to demand. I double check sell-through rates on almost every item that's not truly unique.

And it seems to help.

In this uncertain economy, cash flow is extremely important to a business, and I now double check to make sure there's enough demand on an item so it's truly worth my investment. I don't want items sitting for very long periods of time.

Again, you're probably much more successful than me, but I wanted to share my experience and perspective.

Re: eBay Said

Your store specializes in China and watches.

We gave our China away years ago to free up the storage space and just use regular plates and paper plates.

I suppose watches are still popular though I have not worn or bought one since I got a pager with a clock on it in the 1980's or there abouts.

You are still averaging about 2 sales per day, every day. Not too shabby.

I have chosen to stick with maxing out the item specifics and not doing any PL's. Sales are the same, not that great.... though I am not listing in thoroughly saturated markets, thus PL's are a waste of money especially with their new scheme.

Buyers are not buying like they used to in 2020 and 2021, especially the middle and lower incomes. Budgets are strained, terribly in so many cases.

EBay also does not have as many buyers overall as is the same for other venues.

Re: eBay Said

@ten_o_nine

I really wanted to second this particular response.  When I've talked about getting rid of my mother's old hoarded things, much of what I came across was the kind of things you're offering.  Frankly put, the demand on this stuff is so low I ended up getting rid of a 50pc matched china set locally for $8 and the rest of it was similarly sold to the tune I got rid of a couple of truckloads of it for about $100.  Didn't even try it here too much because fragile, expensive, volume.  People generally want useful more than pretty stuff to look at and a lot of the stuff you have couldn't be used in a regular kitchen setting, mostly because none of it is probably microwavable.  Not to mention, a lot of it wouldn't even be *safe* to eat off of for the lead paints and stuff used in that time.

Watches too.  There's just no demand for anything that's "normal".  People want smart watches.

Mainly put, you missed the obvious observation: Sell stuff people want.  That's the hard part, though.  I keep finding out that myself over and over and over...
