eBay Relisting SOLD Items

I know this has been an ongoing issue with eBay as I and other sellers have reported it several times in the past and it is happening again.   This is NOT a glitch this is complete incompetence on eBay's part. I have been with eBay for 18+ years now.  I have a very effective way of barcoding each item in my inventory and and scanning each item in and out, I am selling items that have been sold months ago and even up to a year ago. When I call to report the issue as I have recently the eBay help/representative is absolutely rediculous and want to blame me.  This is not an issue on my end.   And now they want to just hang up on me when I request a callback.  This needs fixed immediately.

Since it's been going on for years, don't think they are going to fix it immediately.

Have a great day.

Re: eBay Relisting SOLD Items

This will NEVER be fixed. I have complained about this for years but eBay, of course, is not at fault. This happens to me about 2 or 3 times a month. I just send a nice message to the buyer telling them that eBay has once again relisted a sold item and then cancel the sale but never as out of stock because you don't want a defect on your account when this was obviously eBays fault and not yours. Wish you could search sold listings for an entire year so you could actually prove it to these reps but they are all foreign and don't really understand everything or give a crap.

Re: eBay Relisting SOLD Items

We had this happen twice last year. Not fun at all. As a seller, you are looking for something that is already gone. Also, check your listings for duplicates at least once a month. We have had that happen as well.

Best wishes;

Re: eBay Relisting SOLD Items

I just had it happen again. It took me a while to figure it out because I had to dig through my own records since eBay only goes back a few months. I sold a cassette in October of last year and today I received a sale on it. I certainly didn't relist it. When cancelling an order there needs to be a reason to choose that says this was eBays fault.

Re: eBay Relisting SOLD Items

Yes - Exactly.  eBay needs to take ownership for this problem.  I barcaode all of my inventory and scan the inventory in and out so I have a record of each item that has been sold.  I sold a top on October 24th of last year and it sold again yesterday. I keep getting told that a member of eBay's leadership team will call me and I am still waiting on that call, imagine that.

Re: eBay Relisting SOLD Items

@bbcardzman

You mean the Frank Zappa cassette

That was listed 15 days ago, on Jun-16 08:16 PDT (or 15:16:40 UTC). You were listing a lot of items that day, and this appears to have been part of a batch of about 144 listings that were started together (not counting any others that have sold since then). There are 143 listings still active that were started as part of the same batch, at the same time to the minute.

Can you remember how you were operating when started that batch? Were you relisting from unsold listings? From a third-party app?

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ssn=bbcardzman&_sop=10&_ipg=120&_pgn=10&rt=nc

Somehow that old listing got swept up and included when you started the batch ... I'm trying to brainstorm to see how that could have happened.

Do you ever use the out of stock option? or inventory?

Re: eBay Relisting SOLD Items

Lol, good to know. I just had a duplicate. Thought old age was catching up to me as every item I list is right in my hand at the time of listing and then set aside for Ebay. I have only been selling for a month here on Ebay. I was double checking listing were correct and one item had been listed twice that is a discontinued item. I'm like, I think I am loosing it!  The listed items I put in a different place so they are not duplicated (trying to circumvent getting senile I guess).  I only do this with items I list on Ebay not my webstore or other platforms I sell on. (Its that seller metric thing again 😂)  as I am still learning the Ebay ropes.

Re: eBay Relisting SOLD Items

I see this same thing posted a lot on here. A LOT
But I've been here 24 years, have sold a few hundred thousand parts. Currently have right at 10,000 items listed.
And have NEVER had this happen.
I mean, I have sold stuff twice, but always went back to find out it was my mistake.
1) only have one but duplicating and changing end up with 2 in the quantity.
2) cancellation request has the re-list box checked. And I go re-list it manually as well.
3) take pics, write down all the info, then find an issue and toss the part, then forget and end up listing it.
At least a dozen more mistakes easily possible.

Re: eBay Relisting SOLD Items

I was ending and relisting a bunch of items in the bulk editor.

I don't use the out of stock option and not sure what that is either.

I have a good system to easily find my items and I used to keep a detailed list of sales but haven't since last November or so.  The last listing that was relisted when sold was a CD that probably sold in December but I couldn't find that one.

Re: eBay Relisting SOLD Items

I have been here 22+ years and this has only happened in the last year or so.

I stopped doing quantity listings long ago but have missed the re-list box in the past and have had to cancel for my mistake. And I am fine with me screwing up and having to cancel on order but I just get frustrated when I am sure it's not my fault. But I guess even platforms make mistakes. I wonder if it was something between October and the end of last year because it always seems to be in that area they originally sold. I'd like to go through all my 2700 items but I know that's probably not going to happen. Hopefully this stops happening for good soon.

Re: eBay Relisting SOLD Items

This happens to me about 2 or 3 times a month.

Holey Moley!

That's a LOT!

I see it every now and again, but have spotted the problem before the sale.

I am probably part of the problem because I do list on other sites, and it is very important that all other accounts be cleared when a sale is made from one.

FWIW, I also review my listings from time to time (about monthly) by putting them in alpha-numeric order and running down them for matched pictures, duplicated listings, or listings that look very familiar.

Those immediately get closed.

Then the Closed List is reviewed in case there was no problem in which case they are relisted.

A bright side.

Those relisted /sell similar listings get a tiny boost in Search as Newly Listed.

It all helps.

OK, thanks for responding.

Is it possible that you originally sold that cassette on another site?

I could not find any evidence that it had been sold on eBay in the last 3 years. I searched for the exact title on marketplace research, and nothing. Then I searched for just the keywords, and I found some copies that had sold, but nothing that used your picture, so I don't think any of them were yours.

If it was sold on another site, and you ended it on eBay, then it would have gone into your unsold list, and maybe it accidentally got relisted from there when you were doing the big batches of listings on that day in June.

Another thought: is it possible that the cassette was sold on eBay, but you had to refund the purchase for some reason?

Funny how it  seems to happens to the same people (who are possibly making the same mistake).

I'm like you. Been selling for 25+ years. 16,000+ items sold. It has never happened to me.

Re: eBay Relisting SOLD Items

I only sell on eBay. I didn't think of a refund, maybe that could have been it. I do get a lot of people who buy and then want to cancel so maybe that had something to do with it.
