eBay/Global Shipping

I shipped a Fender guitar in mint condition to England using Global Shipping from Kentucky.  It arrived in excellent condition per UPS phone conversation.  2 weeks later I received a notice from eBay that read"  refund the customer to keep your good standing".  I have 8 hours invested in phone conversations with eBay and have received conflicting information and assurances. The guitar sold for $1600. I could not get any contact information for GS to speak with them. I was promissed by a shipping specialists(eBay?)that they would refund the buyer and I was not to worry.  It was in a hard shell case and the pictures I saw showed chip groves on the face and back. And, the buyer said that there was no paint chips in the case.  Someone is responsible because I viewed the guitar while it was in the case and being packed. I fulfilled my contract with eBay upon  delivery to Kentucky. As of this AM my funds have been taken from my Pay Pal account and the buyer has been refunded and he gets to keep the merchandise.  The seller is not given the same consideration as the buyer.  Any suggestions on how I can get my money back other than Small Claims Court?  Ken G

Re: eBay/Global Shipping

According to the GSP page:

  • If an item is lost or broken during international shipping, eBay Money Back Guarantee cases will be resolved in your favour, and your seller performance standards won’t be affected"

and

  • ShipCover insurance isn't available for items sent to the shipping center. If you purchase USPS insurance, it only protects you against any loss or damage to the package until it reaches the US shipping center. However, the Global Shipping Program covers international shipment of the item

You should be covered.  You need to call eBay and find out who to call to make the claim.

It's been my understanding that once it's received in Kentucky, you are done.

Re: eBay/Global Shipping

Jeez, that hurts.

The international return and not-as-described case has been revised recently.

When did you list it? I believe this is critical. Ebay is now saying that all international returns will be treated as domestic. Return? Buyer pays shipping. Not-as-described? Seller pays.

You entered into a contract when you shipped GSP. They cannot change the rules retroactively. While GSP still says you're covered as soon as it reaches Kentucky and is ok'd, we're talking about ebay here. How much do you trust ebay?

Get on the phone to Paypal, not Ebay. Be proactive. Do it now.

The only recent change to international returns is that sellers can now specify a separate return policy for international buyers.  I'm not sure what you are referring to but sellers have had to pay shipping for nad international returns for a long time EXCEPT when an item was damaged while being shipped by the gsp.

Re: eBay/Global Shipping

Pay Pal is owned by eBay.  I did call them and I told them not to release the money.  I was told that they would note that but they only respond to eBay instructions!

@graysonstunetown PayPal is not owned by eBay. PayPal did not note anything. They will release the funds whether you to tell them to or not. You have no say in it.

PayPal is no longer owned by eBay and hasn't been for some time.

Sellers don’t make a claim. If the item was damaged during shipping after it leaves KY, then the GSP responsible and when the buyer files a request the seller has to call eBay and eBay closes the request and refunds the buyer in full out of ebays pocket. The seller doesn’t file a claim any where 🙂

I don’t know how UPS would know the condition of the guitar when it arrived in KY?

@graysonstunetown

Where was the SNAD file? Through PayPal or eBay?

You need to call eBay and ask to speak to a GSP specialist.

Re: eBay/Global Shipping

The buyer originally reported it as not as described but eventual showed pictures of the damage. They indirectly told me that it was shipped that way. Has anyone ever gone to arbitration? They sent me information stating that by using their service that I can only take it to arbitration. Also, has anyone ever got to talk to Pitney Bowes who is the shipper? Also, eBay nor Pitney Bowes will assist you in getting back the merchandise even though they did the shipping. It would have cost me $497.75 to get it back from England via UPS. Have you ever felt that the buyer makes a living just by damaging the merchandise getting a refund and keeping the merchandise? Comments welcomed.

You need to call CS and ask for a GSP specialist.  This is not your responsibility, but GSP's.
