eBAy now removes negative feedback from a transaction if seller wins a dispute? what!!!!

I opened a dispute as a seller sent me two tablets for my kids however one of them was used not new as described and the OS was bricked, long story short the seller delayed me for two weeks on a decision for a repalcement when I urged him  that I needed these for christmas, he finally conceded to a refund not replacement which meant I would have been stuck with only one tablet for twin girls, instead I paid out of pocket to have a computer shop reimage the tablet.  I did not return anything and the case was closed in the sellers favor but lo and behold not only did they cide with the seller but they removed the ngative feedback I left!  What does one have to do with the other?

This is a huge breach of ethics! Never would have I imagined this could happen! No now I have to question wether any seller truly has the feedback rating displayed or has the many negatives been erased by eBay?  This feedback channel to me is used to let other buyers know what happened, quality issues and mostl importantly MY EXPERIENCE AS A CUSTOMER! This particualr seller even offered to bribe me with $10 to remove the feedback and I refused due to my strong ethics then eBay goes and does this! I am sorry but after 20 years on eBay this is just plain wrong and my buying habits are gonna shift big time.

When I contacted eBay they assured me it was a "technical error" which I didnt believe as this is the email I received.

Hi Rxxxxx,

Recently, you opened an eBay Buyer Protection case for Asus ZenPad S 8 Z580C-B1-BK 8.0'' 1.33GHz Atom Z3530 32GB Wi-Fi Black Tablet. We also received the feedback you left for the transaction, but it's been removed from the seller's feedback profile because of a recent decision on the eBay Buyer Protection case.

You can always view the case details in the Resolution Center or learn more about eBay feedback policies.

That's correct...and it should be so.

Any reason you did not open a case(s) for Item Not As Described?

Which any clear thinking buyer would have done & obtained a refund.

...any feeback removal should always be with the consent of the person who left it, never to a 3rd party.  As i stated ealrier if the seller hadnt dicked me around for 2 weeks I would have had the time to return, but instead he pretended like he had to confer with his "technical dept" and that was another week of back and forth.

So my experience was negative, regardless of the outcome,  That was my feedback to leave and should never have been modified or removed!

The bottom line is how can you trust a site where the feedback is manipulated? I in good conscience can not unfortunatley.  I am completely shocked that eBay would do that.  The seller could have offered me $50 and  i STILL would have refused to remove the feedback.  This is akin to faking reviews throughout the internet.  I am flabbergasted and hope this was an honest error on eBays part.  Otherwise I am gone.

If you had immediately opened a NAD then the seller would not have been able to do that.

They would be required to pay for return shipping, you would have a refund & been able to leave your neg.

"any feeback removal should always be with the consent of the person who left it,"

That leaves the door wide open for a gazillion unjustified negs left by clueless buyers to remain on a sellers feedback...I don't think so.

r: without going into a long drawn out response, I tried to resolve the issue amicably with the seller so as not to impact him by opening a case...my mistake as he gave me the runaround for 2 weeks... yet this still has NOTHING to do with the arbitrary removal of accurate feedback! i have seen dozens of stupid feedback such as (Neutral/Neg: "Product worked great good seller"). These are never removed. Its only if you open a case against a seller then close or dismiss it (in my case) they reverse the feedback. Closing a case should never correlate with feedback left ( even if it was done by some idiot who cant tell the difference between positive and neutral)

They would be required to pay for return shipping, you would have a refund & been able to leave your neg. r: seller could not send a return shipping label, I would have had to pay then be reimbursed...again this is not about money it is about feedback.

Amazon NEVER removes feedback so surprised that this is the new norm.

Customer service lied when they said it was a technical error. It's been policy for many years that feedback is removed when the seller wins the case. My question to you is, I see that you DID open an SNAD return request, so why didn't you ask eBay to step in? They told you when you opened the case that you could ask them to step in and help. When the seller stalled for 2 weeks, you should have asked eBay to step in. If the return was approved and you were told to return the item, then the question here is, why didn't you return the item?

... I didnt return the item as there was no time left waiting 2 weeks for it to arrive and be processed with Christmas around the corner but that is still not the point, the point is my experience leading up to the sellers decision to accept the return was painful and the exact opposite of a good experience which is why i left the appropriate feedback.  eBay should not have the right to alter a customers point of view? How ridiculous is that and how does that speak to the auction sites code of ethics when it comes to an accurate portrayal of a customers' experience with that seller?

If it has been policy for years then I no longer trust the eBay feedback ratings and will shift my spend to other online malls that do not have that  deceptive policy in mind.

gain , this has nothing to do with the transaction as I didnt want my money back from the get go (just a repalcement) this topic is about the systematic removal of genuine and deserved feedback with no consultation from the feedback writer.  This is a robot saying oh seller won a case therefore there was no negative experience on the buyer's part, lets delete their feedback for them since they are happy now.  Sound ignorant? Yes, because it is.

HOW about returning them both for a refund ...and GO TO A STORE!

your twins issue is your issue...

if the seller sends something wrong..RETUN FOR REFUND....then get what you need...

you took it and they fixed it? I assumed it worked after you did that?  well you took it upon yourself to do that...A seller should/could refund the cost...but if you did it before they agreed, then its on you...

BUT just like at a store....you take it back and get a new one or a refund...

about feedback..them are the rules and they way it works... since we don't see the feedback we cant say what it said... as for "the bribe"  did you appeal and show it to anyone --did the CS see the email? and it was spacific to what you say? Did you talk to a supervisor? we don't know the detail;s to both sides....

but as a buyer, and your ethics, you have a EBAY policy and procedure to use....return for refund is simple and easy..the seller would have to pay to have it shipped back...because it wasn't working as described....AS for the twin issue...then you wait, or go to the store....because if a bad situation happens and YOU MUST have a second one...you get it and deal with the return per policy....

I fell this got out of hand fast and now you ended up mad... BUT you do have two working computers? yes?  seems that would be the only part that matters.

Hi @bay$, I understand how you feel.  Sorry you ran into this seller.  It sounds like they yanked you around and stalled and didn't do much to help you.  Put them on your Blocked Bidder List --  even though they're a seller -- so you can remember who they are and avoid them in the future.   The feedback was removed according to eBay policy, and would have aged off after a year, anyway.  FYI if the transaction is cancelled on other sites, negative feedback is unable to be left on those sites as well.  It's a surprise the first time you run into it.  Good luck!

@tenbigdogs  Whch sites?

That is not true for amazon, who only removes a neg for profanity.

On etsy, if feedback is left before the 2 days is takes for the cancellation process, it will not be removed.  Feedback there is removed for profanity or complaint only about 3rd-party services.  Also, neither of those sites has buyer feedback.

Never allow a seller to interfere with buyer protection processes.

If you had asked ebay to step in, eBay would have ruled in your favor, supplied a seller-paid return label, and asked you to return both items to the seller for a refund.

I have to ask. How many of those other venues even HAVE FB for sellers? (or buyers for that matter)?

In your mind that would be deceptive because you have NO way of telling what type of seller you're dealing with, right?

Well, you know now that negs will be removed if the seller wins the case, no matter how bad the transaction was for the buyer.

On a more positive note though, at least all those other negs and neuts you have left in the past are still there. wink

You opened a case; you lost. Allowing a buyer to slam a seller after eBay rules in favor of the seller would be ridiculous.
