drop in sales and views

I dont understand what is happening,  I am down 42%  on sales, page views etc. etc.  I can barely make ends meet these last few weeks.  I dont' know what do do.

I know the economy isn't great but there has to be a reason for the sudden drop.

Anyone else seeing it?  Is it ebay?  why arent my items getting seen?????

Thanks for your input

thanks for the upbeat reply.

I read all your replies to the feedback you received from other members and I read their feedback and suggestions.

Experienced Members provided solid information and suggestions. You are taking a defensive stand which will not bode well to improve your business as you wish.

Best of luck thru the holiday sales season.

Re: drop in sales and views

I mean what exactly are you looking for? If all the answers that you don't like or agree with are "less than helpful" then maybe you've figured out whats wrong.

Would you prefer us to all say that you're doing great and things will pick up soon?

I don't know about you but I'll take constructive criticism and someone who's doing better than me telling me what I'm doing is wrong over getting sugar coated. It has gotten me much farther in life.

Re: drop in sales and views

I’m busier here on eBay and pretty steady elsewhere.   I sell in 4 places and have a steady amount to do. I create my own products so I am always able to keep myself different.

In the past I wouldn’t have been able to handle 4 sites at Xmas !!! I have seen a steady decline for years.  I blame it on way more competition.  Your items get harder and harder to get found. Everyone wants you to pay to play now.   I’ve been selling here over 20 years ! That might be helping my sales bc I have so much feedback.   The other big sites since 2012.  It was incredible in the past.  Now it’s just so so as everyone wants to have a side hustle.  All these YouTubers making it seem so easy to sell online  be a crafter, reseller  or whatever.   We need the herd to be thinned out which  no offense to anyone. But im hoping this is the year we lose a lot of sellers ! There’s way too many on every platform. You can’t all be seen.  It’s a little bit the economy but mostly what you sell.   People are spending plenty. It’s just where are they spending it?   The good ole days are gone selling online. Too many people caught wind of it and now it’s getting ruined and over saturated with too many sellers for the amount of buyers.

Re: drop in sales and views

First of all I  think the comments about your feedback are accurate. Obviously you are not giving the buyer the :experience” you want them to have.  I would make a real concerted effort to go out of your way to be kind to every buyer all the time. Yes I know that can be difficult.

Secondly I have the basic store with 1000 “free” listings. I try to cancel and relist them when things seems super slow. You can end all all of them or just some of them. However when you end whatever listings. Don’t hit “relist” hit SELL SIMILAR and that will hopefully make the crazy “system” think it is a new item.

I wish you lots of good luck, and you might go over all your listings, and see if they are accurately described. Selling pre-owned bedding can be tricky. Also I would be tempted to put a note in every package letting the customer know “you appreciate their business, and satisfaction is guaranteed” sometimes we have to really swallow our tongue. I know I do.  Best wishes and think of every comment as constructive on this thread, although we don’t always like what other people say.

@laststopgeneralstore

If you promote your items at a high percentage and your traffic goes up but your sales don't, that should very very clearly tell you that your items are the issue, not eBay.

This should be embroidered on a sampler.

I was just thinking this evening how I used to shop on eBay all the time, back in the day. Now I rarely do - why? There is so much competition, so much choice, and in the last few years, particularly since the pandemic was wiping out almost entire families where I live, I began to question if I really need "stuff" - I'll bet I'm not alone.

Two different townhouses on my block in NYC sold this year for a little over seven million dollars apiece, each setting a record for the highest price ever paid for a single-family house in my neighborhood.

Cancelled my store subscription then, the next step will just be ending my listings.  That should make you happy, hartung.  You might learn a lesson that you are unable to judge people; especially absolute strangers.

eBay was so sorry to see me cancel & asked for more info about how they can improve the situation.  I told them they need to make it possible for my listings to be more visible to potential buyers!

Re: drop in sales and views

Basically speaking in some respects its a fault in the Feedback system in a way.  95.7% makes things appear as 1 in every 20 orders has had a problem yet the OP has fulfilled 600 some odd orders yet 1/3rd left rating thereabouts.  If we were to assume those 600 orders w/o issues that rating is would be higher.  Clearly I would guess (oh my that sounds bad!)  it exists as it does keep seller on their game better.

Now eBay's search engine does take into account many factors when ranking products in search rewarding good performance over poor performance.  How that all mooshes together algorithmically is an unknown to the site users.

@sakic92710

I pulled up an incognito browser. Searched for 2 of your listings.

If I have my heart set on "Heineken Poker Chips" and I do a search, your listing is 3rd.

If I search for "Panco Ski Boots", your listing is 5th out of 47.

What more do you need? You are right there in the hunt.

Re: drop in sales and views

I need more than 6-9 sales a month.  For 20 years, a slow week was 8-10.  2 years ago - BAM!  8-9 a month (except for 1 month) is a regular thing.  Something is seriously wrong with trying to sell here now.  Until, a few months ago, I listed several hundred items.  I get the same amount of sales whether I have 600 listings or 120.  I've had enough of whatever interference eBay is doing with my opportunity to generate income.

Way to go. Workin' it. Keep it going.

I land quite a few with the chance to send offer.

About 10% or so. Sometimes more.....

Then you need to stop listing exclusively long tail items and mix in some things that will turn over more quickly. Almost everything you have is the sort of thing that probably only has three or four people out there who are going to want it. Those people might search for it tomorrow, or they might not search for it until three years for now.

I don't understand why you absolutely can't seem to grasp the concept of long tail items.
