default 1-day shipping?

Came across this in my Auctionbytes email.

"In the meantime, eBay is still trying to catch up to Amazon when it comes to shipping. The company notified sellers last week that it would make 1-day handling the default when creating new listings."

Guess I missed this? Does the default override one's setting of 2 days? I normally ship in 1 day but having the option to ship in 2 days is helpful from time to time.

default 1-day shipping?

Not sure yet -- But I sold 2 items that should have had 2 day shipping and my notice from ebay said they needed to go out the next day. Sold another one on Friday and after I messed with my shipping preferences it has changed to 3-12 day shipping , which is also not good.  I don't know what the answer is yet but I am going to try to to set my cut off time to something like 5:00am or earlier which would maybe give me my 2 days back.  Like everyone else I try to ship the next day - but if I don't check before I go to work I will not have the item with me to ship that day  So the two days gives me that buffer

Here's the Ebay message, and note that at least right now, it applies to sellers who consistently ship sooner than their shipping defaults state:
" We’re updating the pre-filled handling time value in the listing flow to 1 day for sellers who consistently ship faster than current defaults. In September 2019, eBay will update the pre-filled value in the Handling time field in the eBay listing flows to 1 day. Currently, eBay listing flows are pre-filled with 2 or 3 days. The 1 day handling time change will be an optional default when you create new listings. You can still select the handling time that works best for you at any time, and we will not change handling times in your existing listings.

We recommend you show a handling time of 1 day or less in your listings as delivery speed is an increasingly important factor in buyers’ purchase decisions, and because you are already shipping most of your shipments in 1 day or less. By reducing your handling time, your listings will be more appealing to buyers looking for a faster delivery.

To allow an opportunity to adjust to a 1 day handling time, we will protect your account from late shipments that are a result of the update. Through January 1, 2020 we will remove defects for a late shipment that are a result of the update. These protections will apply to transactions for listings on eBay.com where a 1 day handling time is stated. Defects will be automatically removed within 1-2 weeks of being received.

Thank you for selling on eBay.

@keziak   There's a long discussion about this that's been on this board since 9/26 with some comments from Brian.T (link below).

The cut off time is only for same day shipping so changing it wouldn't affect your one or day shipping.
