Story gets better- I realized I mailed another item this morning, after feedback was left, and before this theft transaction was automatically approved.
This is why we fear managed payments. Why am I paying for them to send back something they changed their mind about. Ebay is a joke.
Maybe we don't need Ebay!

I looked at a couple of your listings and saw you offered a 14 day return policy with the buyer paying the return shipping. Changed mind is covered with this policy, but the buyer should be billed for the shipping and not you. Did the item in question have a different policy?

Actually YOU did not pay the return shipping.
YOU did have to verify your address so they can ship back, but they will be paying the return shipping for that return ( changed mind )

Buyers pay postage when case of "buyer's remorse". You only pay return postage when customer claims "not as described, defective, counterfeit".
Of course, if you offer "free returns" (then customer can return for "any reason" and you would have to pay return postage).

Same 14 days on that listing. Person didn't ding it until after I had left feedback on other purchase. So that is 2 positive feedbacks for buyer. Lets see if they game the 2nd card.

If it was Buyer's Remorse, why not choose the refuse the return option? Since I don't have all the facts from your side, why not just pay the return shipping "for a postcard" so that you can get the item back and then approve the refund when you get it back. The cost either way for a postcard makes no sense to complain, pennies on the dollar.

I don't have free returns for CHANGE MY MIND - or maybe I do, I really don't know anymore with this platform.
After receiving the item, contact seller within Refund will be given as Returns shipping
14 days | Money Back | Buyer pays for return shipping |

That is not an option. it was automatically approved by ebay and the return tracking # generated to the buyer.

Since you have a 14-day return policy ... you must accept any return requested within 14 days from delivery. The buyer should be paying the return shipping, however, because of the reason ('changed mind') they selected.
Buyer was honest about the reason. Are you certain that you were charged for the return shipping? I don't see any reason why you would have been.

So they sent me the tracking # just for informational purposes and didn't ding me (for that)? But I will still get autodinged for the change of mind postcard once the tracking says delivered, before I get to review it for damage or presence.
Its been a bad day on ebay. Besides the horroible new listing view, I got weird spam message via ebay internal messaging. I'm taking the rest of the day off.
Thanks everyone for your help.

Hi there-
I understand you frustration but this is what I'm seeing more and more on these boards. A seller posted yesterday that although they wanted to post No returns, Ebay automatically set his return policy to accept them. He wasn't able to change it in his listing either. So I'm thinking that Ebay is now automatically applying this feature to the listing. Not the first time I read this concerning returns. And also, what ever the issue is for the return, the seller is responsible for the label and the refund. Bottom line, no returns doesn't mean no refunds.
Hang in there.

I'm surprised they still offer the no return option for sellers.

Yes - it's so you can also track the package back, and to prove that it was, indeed, shipped by the buyer.
You get no 'auto-ding' for a remorse return.
Once the card is returned, inspect it before refunding.
This is just a bog-standard routine remorse return *conducted within your terms of service (14 day returns, buyer pays shipping). Nothing more.

I am guessing that the listimg offered free returns. Thats why the return was automatically approved. However, you can deduct the shipping charges to and from the buyer even if you offer free returns (which I don't like), and you can charge a restocking fee of up to 50%.
Another thing that needs to be changed is that the seller should be able to choose the return shipping service. When a seller offers free returns, Amy returns, no matter the reason, are automatically approved and the buyer is automatically sent a USPS return label regardless of how the item was shipped to the buyer. The worst one I had was when I shipped a large airless paint sprayer to a buyer, and it didn't work. (It was new and factory sealed). The buyer opened a return and was sent a USPS return label. I paid around $46.00 to ship it to him by FedEx, but the USPS return was charged to me for $76.00!
Before the buyer shipped it, I sent a message asking him not to use the USPS label and allow me to send him a FedEx return label, but he didn't trust that since the label wouldn't be from eBay! I ha e complained about this procedure several times, but nobody at eBay will cooperate.
