I had a buyer who tried to claim something I sent was not authentic in an ebay case and then closed it after I responded. They didn't write anything but chose the option that the case was opened by mistake. If they then tried to open a paypal case does what they chose on ebay hold any ground in this matter?

I had the exact thing happen to me. KEEP LOOKOUT FOR PAY PAL CORRESPONDENCE! I had a buyer wanting to return a shirt after 2 months, he called me instead of emailing through ebay. He then tried to get me to just do a refund without opening a case. Very long story short: eBay denied his return request, turns out he had a very high return rate. Almost another month goes by and I see a full refund to him out of my PayPal account. I called PayPal and they said they sided with him because I never answered back or disputed his claim. I had no idea he had disputed this with PayPal. Turns out that PayPal sent me an email about the matter to my email linked to the account NOT my eBay messages. So I learned a big lesson to always double check for things like that!

Watch your PP account and check for any open cases. Buyers can go to the funding source to start a chargeback. PP will tell them to return it if they are not satisfied with it if you choose to allow the return. They will have to pay for return shipping if you agree to the return. It is hard to fight chargebacks on PP. If they want to return it. Let them.

Yes, they can open a paypal case. Since the companies are separate now, I doubt them canceling an ebay case is going to make any difference........

If they open a chargeback on PP. respond to this right away. If the case is allowed to stay open without a response from you in a given time, PP can refund the buyer without them returning your item.
