Have a buyer that won an auction. They email me and tell me they forgot to change the address and he wants it sent to his girlfriend at a different address.
I also get an email from ebay customer support asking me to ship it to the changed address and they give that new address in the communication from ebay.
Am I covered if I do this since ebay CS sent me a message or should I refund and have them repay with the new address or ?????.
Always thought it was a no-no to ship to any other address other than what is on the ebay order....
Thanks!

...the buyer has over 1600 feedbacks, so I think it'll be okay.
Probably, but....
How recent are those feedbacks?
It is not unusual for an unused or abandoned account to be taken over by scammers. Not common but not unusual.
If the FB are more than six months old, tell the buyer to change his address in Paypal. Not eBay, Paypal.
Paypal can have multiple addresses attached. At one time the company called these "gift addresses" because: they were used to send gifts.
And check that the money is both in your PP account and cleared, not on Hold.

Thanks for the tag @wastingtime101 !
CS should never be contacting you with a request like this. Ever. I'll make sure that appropriate action is taken with the teammate involved.

tyler@ebay - I just read your posts in the chat with eBay that said sellers no longer receive seller protection from eBay if they change the address, even when the buyer's request is visible through eBay messages.
If a CS rep is contacting a seller through eBay messages and asking them to change an address for a buyer - which goes against everything you just said today - then that's a problem that needs to be addressed.

"I also get an email from ebay customer support asking me to ship it to the changed address and they give that new address in the communication from ebay."
Why would ebay CS send you anything? Did you ask them?
Highly irregular, suspicious, maybe a spoofed email?
I would forward that email to spoof@ebay.com

Hello Tyler,
Respectfully speaking, I am curious about something. You say that you will "make sure that appropriate action is taken with the teammate involved".
To me, that might indicate that there is a record of the conversation(s) or e-mail(s), whether the CS made notes or not, that would make for a type of paper trail for follow-up, observation and supervision - which would be entirely appropriate. However, I've seen many times where a seller says they have called CS for a follow-up on a particular situation and a different CS says that they don't see any notes or record(s) of what the prior CS said/promised/suggested. Is it that only the 'higher-ups' can see what has transpired or could that be another case where CS needs to be coached?

Hi @gracieallen01 - the answer to that question is 'it depends'. We don't require teammates to leave notes on each call they take. We do encourage teammates to leave notes if anything deviated from the norm - if follow up was promised, an exception was discussed, etc. In those cases they should leave a note attached to the service request ('SR'). You can always request the SR number of the call, which would allow anyone you speak with to pull up the specific call you had and review any notes that were left. If notes weren't left, any supervisor can review the call recordings (however they wouldn't be able to do that while they are on the phone with you).
In cases of emails being sent to members, that's a bit different. Anyone can review the email that was sent, who sent it, and the contents. Thanks!

Here's my other issue. "They email me and tell me they forgot to change the address and he wants it sent to his girlfriend at a different address." What, his girlfriend lives that for away he can not ship it to his address and deliver it personally??? Yes people do forget to change their address for shipping but you have to protect your money and with a different address your money is not protected. I can see it now, NOT DELIVERED, CASE CLOSED.

I would forward that email to spoof@ebay.com
I don't think you can forward phony messages that arrive in your My eBay Messages to that address.
There is no place on the site to report such. They took away the "report this message" button in the eBay message system. Just remember NOT to fall for the phony "text me your PayPal email address" and fake "change of address requests". Sellers, be they new or old, are on their own.

Hi @ittybitnot, I wanted to add some clarification that any message sent from Customer Service would go to both the registered email on file and My Messages on eBay. If something appears only in My Messages, then it shouldn't be sent to spoof@eBay.com as that email address is specifically designed to review emails received to a member's personal email address that may be falsely portraying themselves as coming from eBay. If a message received in My Messages has raised concerns, Customer Service can be contacted directly to review.
Additional information can be found on spoof emails and how to protect oneself from phishing attempts in our related Help Page (here).

In this thread, it has not been confirmed one way or the other - if the seller sends to a non-registered address (using tracking of course), are they covered in an INR situation? There have been many different answers about this scenario lately, so I am asking clarification. Thank you.

You can ship to another address as long as the buyer has the address they want it to be shipped to on their PP account.. Then your are protected, but no protection if you ship it to an address NOT on that account.

The whole thing would have been easy if the seller just told the buyer to add the girlfriends address to their PP account if that is how they paid. Not sure how it would work with other forms of payment like managed payments where you are not certain of the source of the payment. Actually, that’s a good question for Tyler and Trinton.

Trinton, this thread raised some questions for me since I am on Managed Payments. If the buyer wants to ship to someone else how do you proceed with that ? When PP was the only funding source we just asked them to add the address to their account. How do you do that with MP? THANKS.
